The Postcard Collection...

Every time the hubs and I take a trip, even a day trip,
we try to purchase a few postcards, to send home before we leave.

The hubs sents his to me, I send mine to him.
We each write a line or two about our favorite parts of the day or trip.
I slap a stamp on them (I keep stamps in my purse)
and we mail them home before we leave, so they are postmarked
from wherever we were.
We don't peek at what the other wrote...
A few days later, it's really fun to receive snail mail, that we have
usually forgotten about and then to read the highlights each of us wrote about.

We started doing this in 2010.
I was keeping them in a long glass container but I really wanted
to make them into a book,

here's what I came up with!!

I used wood for the covers, so the book would stand up...

I inked the exposed edges of the wood, just to give it a little interest.
 For the covers,
I just decoupaged one postcard on both the front and one on the back cover.

Lining up the postcards, I punched 2 holes in each postcard...

and used binder rings (I purchased mine in Staples) to hold it all together.
This way, it is easy to view both the front and back side
of the postcards, so we can easily read what we wrote.

I tied a bunch of pretty ribbons to the binder rings..

which easily open up, to accept postcards from future trips!!

This is the back of the book.

Super easy and now displayed on the coffee table,
where we can always look back and remember
all our fun trips!

Sharing today with
stop by and join in the fun.

Oh my goodness Debbie, that is such a neat idea and love that you did the covers out of wood and applied postcards to them, great way to be able to add more and your idea of both of you writing without seeing what the other has written and to see it days later to share the trip again is just a fantastic idea, oh how I wish you would have posted this before I left for our vacation. Thanks for the great idea for the future trips!

This makes an adorable book to flip through often. I also like your idea to each write a postcard and send it home--putting fun back in the mailbox!

What a wonder idea. Everytime someone went somewhere they would bring Caleb back a postcard. When he was younger he liked the idea but at 16 he has lost interest and they are all at my home! This would be so cool to put them together like this and maybe when he is older yet he will enjoy them put together like this.
