Mute Swans

Two beautiful Mute Swans, making do in the icy waters,

and bathing under the beautiful fountain!!

The name "mute" derives from being less vocal than other swan species.

I need to become a mute swan for a day or two.....
to do some organizing and regrouping.

Restore The Shore

Yesterday the hubs and I went for a walk along the beach.

We searched for sea glass and found only a few small pieces.
I'm not going to bother with a photograph of the loot,
trust me it wasn't much.

 

The ocean was beautiful.

It's difficult to comprehend the devastation that lies

all around this massive body of water.

 

The boardwalks are still gone. Homes still turned on their sides,
untouched after Super Storm Sandy,

they cannot be repaired.

Restaurants that you can see though completely, just barely holding on. 

The devastation from Sandy is everywhere and little has been done.

 

We love the Jersey Shore,
and the hubs loves when we wear our matching sweatshirts!!

 

Please someone...help us!

My Happy Spot

I only have a few house plants,

just enough for constant indoor color
and just enough to bring me constant joy.

 

Here it is, a small sunny spot in the family room.
Four plants, on a yummy wooden tray,
that sits on top of an ottoman, making the ottoman a table.
Don't ask.

 

The Orchid is my favorite,
I just adore how it shimmers and glistens in the sunlight.

 

I have 5 blooms right now, with lot's more coming!

 

I don't remember what bulbs I planted in this,

it will be a super fun surprise in the Spring to see what pops out.
I'll keep you posted.

My Photo Shoot with a Downy

This photo shoot with the Male Female Downy Woodpecker,

went on for more then three minutes.

It was hard for me to leave the window where we were shooting,

but geez, I was sure I had enough pictures.

I know this is too many pictures but how could one resist??

She just sits there, then she starts posing.

There is a suet hanging right above her, but she stays with me.

 

I know people think I am "bird crazy" but I really think the birds see me,

like me and are not afraid!!

 

Tomorrow, I'll try to post about "real life", promise!!

 

The Cupcake Corner

Do any of you guys have a collection of those

cute and colorful cupcake liners??

 

I do, and I have a lot!

 

Let me show you just how many...

All those cute,
colorful wrappers were hidden away inside my baking cabinet.

I have always thought they should be out and on display.

 

Here's the baking cabinet before I started the cleaning process.

The cupcake liners are organized, to some extent,

with each holiday on the second shelf.

The rest are just kinda placed randomly, wherever I had room.

 

 The cabinet got emptied out and scrubbed out.

Can you believe all this "stuff" was in that cabinet??

 

There was a little a lot of purging, I set all those cute cupcake liners aside

and here's how she looks now, all clean and organized.

 

Next, I bought a nice big clear jar...
at The Christmas Tree Store

 

and sprinkled the bottom of the jar with those pretty edible snowflakes.

I bought them for the tops of cupcakes but they taste like cardboard.
So I thought they would look cute here.

 

The jar came with a little chalkboard on the front,

so you don't forget what's inside.

 

Next I created the "cupcake" corner on top of the counter.

 

 

If you come to my house for cupcakes,
this is what your cupcake will be served on.

 

Sweet...Right??

 

It's Nuts...

Mr. Cardinal:  "Hey, where's all the peanuts??"

 

Ms. Cardinal: "The early bird, gets the peanut,

 

even Mr. Blue Jay knows when to dine!!"
