Thursday, we took a drive to Lake of the Lilies in Point Pleasant.
The entire lake is frozen...
except along the shoreline where there are very small patches of water that had not frozen.
The resident Great Blue Heron was there, right along the shoreline,
in one of those water patches.
It looks like there is a nest behind him...
or at the very least where he goes in the evening to keep warm.
He was not fishing, there must be some fish, or he would not stay here.
He enjoyed my attention, he was on alert at times and I have no doubt he saw me.
Walking into the lake...
and preening a bit.
I did not see the Egret that was here last week.
I hope everyone in the path of the storm is prepared, safe and able to keep nice and warm.
We are all stocked up with lots of "snow necessary" food,
candles, batteries, extension cords, and a generator.
Most importantly, I have plenty of yarn.

Your photos are amazing.
Stay safe and warm.
Thank you for taking us along, what lovely nature awaits, free for the visit! The heron is a favorite of mine, and on occasion they will stick close to you while you fish, or so it has happened to me.
Absolutely beautiful. Stay safe and warm.
Hopefully it stays somewhat warm so you have open water for the herons and such. Good luck this weekend!
oh my goodness, a beautiful heron. The details in his feathers.
