Today, we are going to talk about everyone's favorite topic, the weather.
It's been so different everywhere but here in New Jersey,
we have our own story.
We had a very impactful heat wave in July, temperatures near 100 degrees,
and we have gotten very little rain.
Lawns are brown and leaves are falling from dry trees, it looks a little like fall.
The temperatures have been a little bit better but it has been very humid.
Watching the weather on Tuesday, another heatwave is on the way.
You can't talk about rain and not talk about what a blessing it is to the environment & to our gardens.
We water everything, every day, but it is nice to have nourishment from above.
This is a beefsteak, perfect for those BLT"s and tomato sandwiches.
This salad with poppyseed dressing is delicious with them.
The plant only produced a few squash and the outer skin
was tough and bumpy.
I'm not sure why this happened.
We pulled the lettuce out, it was suppose to be iceberg and it was nothing like that.
It did not grow in a ball, was not crunchy and we did not like the flavor.

That salad looks wonderful have to remember that.
You don't realize how much you miss a good rain until it isn't there anymore. We of course got a little too much too quick flooding our garage but we were pretty dry here so the rain was needed, just not quite that much so fast. I wonder what that ended up being instead of the iceberg. We had a kind we got one year that I thought was going to be Romaine but it didn't quite taste like it, but was ok.
Down here WE FRY THose wonderful green " maters" !!! LOL our squash didn't do well either--- what little we got did taste good tho!--- I fried it with a skillet of ( you guessed it!) --- green "maters". Lol nobody's squash did well this year!!!??? Must've been the seeds maybe? Because I've heard it from several different states. glad yall GOT RAIN!!--- I LOVE photographing rain but my pictures don't always turn out good . Did y'all grow peppers?-- I think you said you did. Ours are finally ready.
PS-- have you hand pollinated the squash with a little brush?
We need rain in the UK, many areas will have hose-pipe bans from Friday.

Glorious rain! We need it here these days but we’ve had some except for the last two weeks.
Timely rains are priceless. I personally would rather have it on the wet side than being too dry.
I liked the quote at the end. My husband loves to garden and, regrettably, hasn't done much this year. It has been a very hot July. In fact, the hottest on record for our area. It has been raining off and on over the last couple of weeks. More in the South than here in the North.
The tomato looks like it will be a good one. Your Tomato plants look great. I'm sad about your lettuce and squash. It is unusual to have one that size be a problem.
We are in a drought and cutting back on watering, so our lawn looks a little sad. I hope we will get the blessing of more rain.
