Saturday Critters ~ 10 ~

If I had wings...I would fly south!
Well, maybe I would...not really, I wouldn't.
I enjoy winter but what are these American Robins doing in
New Jersey on February 1st?

I see about 20 in my yard every day, starting on the 1st of February.

The ground is frozen, they can't find worms and they are not happy.

They use to start coming in early March,

a sure sign that Spring was coming too!!

And may I just add, WoW...my grass looks terrible!

I am super excited to be joining in with Eileen over at
for Saturday Critters.

Stop by and consider joining in, any critter will do!!

These are really great shots! The robin's colour is so vivid! You might want to take a trip to the bird food store and get these guys some mealworms. They come dried and aren't icky, and they might help save these birds until spring comes!

Robins!! Now that you mention it, we saw Robins back in December, and again in January. But no sign of spring here yet. Minus 7 this morning.

Yea, that was always our first sign of spring, too. But they have been here all winter. What's up with that?!

they're optimists - just like you! :)

hope they can find some berries to eat.

The robins are beautiful! All we have here are Juncos and Blue Jays once in a while when they come out of hiding. The robins are a pleasant sight!

I love robins. Deb, they also eat berries, perhaps a bag of cranberries would keep them alive until the ground thaws. Or if I were home I'd send you a gallon of swamp water, all you'd have to do is warm it, and you'd have you own mosquito hatch!! LOL

The poor things are lovely! It is cold here in the south as well. Fortunately the hollies are giving both food and protection. Stay warm dear. Bonnie

Debbie, your Robins are very pretty. Great shots. I believe the Robins can be here year round. I do not see them often in my yard. Thank you for linking up to Saturday's Critters. Have a happy weekend!

Oddly, I have not seen many here this winter - silly birds, they flew north and not south. :)

Maybe they thought it was already spring.

I've got them here too...I love them! I hear they travel in groups looking for berries. But that's just a rumor! Enjoy them! You've gotten some great shots!

The Robins seem to be confused this year. I saw Robins on Christmas day and believe me there is no grass visible around here.Poor birds must be hungry.

Robins are some of my favorites.

I'm telling you, Debbie, the birds hear about how good it is at your place and congregate! :-)

Hi Debbie. Robins are so happy. I was kinda surprised to see them last week. They usual don't show up until March. And now we have snow and had an ice storm, with more predicted next week, so I'm worried about the little guys…we keep the bird seed out and water and hope for the best...

I have not seen a robin yet, and I do think it will be some time before I do, but some birds are definitely returning! :-)

Happy Sunday to you, Debbie.

When I moved to Baton Rouge I thought I'd see these birds in abundance. It's rare I have run across one and when I do they are very shy. These are great shots, Debbie! I sure hope he can turn up a worm or two. :)

We don't have "grass" or robins just yet. I don't think spring is ever gonna come. Just sayin'. Tell the robins I said "hello" and "Don't come to Chicago just yet."

They are gorgeous! Maybe they come early because they know who's house to go to for dinner! ;)

Robins eat fruit in the winter. Hopefully they've found some berries nearby.
Wonderful captures.

What beautiful little Robin's. I have always loved this particular bird. I am amazed they aren't still in the South. Nature and how it all works is fascinating.
Blessings!

Oh how I love those Robins. They do seem "peeved" over the frozen ground though.

I think a lot of people have the same idea about "flying south" with this cold winter. It said on the news that the two areas showing searches for houses to buy on the internet right now are Miami and Phoenix/Tucson! :-) Yes, it's great here in the winter. I mean GREAT! :-) But, people don't consider the fact that we have a water issue here. You don't want to go anywhere where water may be in short supply. Oh, I know....I'm one to talk! :-) I moved here almost three years ago! People would say, you did just what you are saying not to do. But, the kids were here. That was the only motivation. I wouldn't have moved to such a HOT summer place if I'd had any choice! :-) But, that aside, I wondered when I saw your pictures what the robins do when there aren't any worms to get at through the hard ground? The poor things must have other resources. You know the seasons are in a mess when the animals and birds don't act like they normally would and show up in March instead of February. Nice pictures!

Good thing they aren't here. We have snow and they'd freeze. I do hope spring is on its way!
