On May 6th, I happened upon a family of swans, mom & dad and 8 tiny, fluffy cygnets.
They were adorable, so cute and innocent, well protected by mom & dad.
followed the first time they were out of the security of their nest,
their first swim and forging a little for food.
They were awesome.
We went back the next day, May 7th, and there were still 8,
they were easy to find, they were in the exact same place as the day before, right by lakes edge.
Here are the pictures of the family, and their 2nd day in the water!
Mom & Dad come over to the water's edge, they remember my soft voice,
they remember my face and know that I will not harm them or the babies.
I tell mom she has done very well.
The pictures I posted on May 9th, are much better pictures of the babies.

I would like to go back today to see them but there is a seafood festival right by the lake,
parking...and getting anywhere near the lark will be impossible.

Mama is splendid, and the babies are sweet.
SOOOO cute. Totally cool that they'll come up to you. Does one baby have darker skin? Could a black swan be born with white feathered parents? (Nope, not getting the national racism issues into a beautiful family of swans, just wondering.) My parents condo campus had a pond with 2 sets of swans. They mate for life, which sets a good example for humans, eh? Linda in Kansas
they are just so sweet, it makes you want to pick them up :) I like the picture of them very close to their momma in the water :) Hope all the people don't scare them away.
Remember the book "The Ugly Duckling" who grew up to be a swan? They are not ugly afterall! Very cute, I'd say.
hi linda in kansas, one, of the nine babies is a dark gray. i do not know how it will grow. black swans do not breed in this country, they are natives of australia.

Just like elephants, swans never forget you, be kind to them.
Swans are highly intelligent, have sharp vision and impeccable hearing.
Mute Swans are very territorial, especially during mating season.
They live for a very long time.
This is why I talk to them and make sure they can see me.
They were not aggressive...what a thrill!
