Pine Creek Railroad

For most of my adult life, I have had a "crush" on trains.
We are so lucky to have the Pine Creek Railroad in Allaire State Park only a stone's throw from home.
Founded in 1952,
The New Jersey Museum of Transportation's Pine Creek Railroad
is one of the oldest, 3 foot narrow gauge railway exhibit's in the country.

Here are some pictures of the Pine Creek Railroad taken in early September when we visited.

A spare motor for maybe a submarine...never used,
there was an interesting story attached to this but neither the hubs nor I can remember the story.

This old timer told us the story, it was so interesting, I wish I could remember it.
He had a wealth of information about everything...
it was a great conversation!

From home, I can hear the train in Point Pleasant arrive at the station and sound its whistle.
This sound always brings me much comfort as I think of the people who are coming home from work
to their loved ones, or those who are arriving here for vacation.

I love where I live!

Were we live in South Dakota, they have an 1880's steam engine train that will take passengers from Hill City to Keystone several times a day. It is very cool!

Hello Debbie :=)
A wonderful way to travel in an open-air train. You look like you are enjoying the excursion. it is a great way to travel, and the train is well cared for.

I can see by that smile you so enjoyed it, so neat to hear the stories of those that have lived a life different then ours. Isn't it something how we hear a certain sound and it can bring a smile or comfort to us, so neat you can hear it from your home.
Sure hope you are feeling better!

Hey! I have always loved trains like you! I used to love hearing Dad's remembrances of 'hopping' the train to visit his father who was a railman in Kentucky. Granddad would always say "Hell son I could have sent you a ticket!"

Love your photos my sweet friend!

It is wonderful that you find trains so comforting. I love how you said that you imagine people coming home from work to their loved ones. I have a train not far from our house and I have always found the sound annoying. Well, I have a whole new perspective. Wonderful photos and you can see how much you enjoyed yourself. I live in Bucks County, Pa just over the bridge from NJ.

There is something fascinating about trains... and train travel. I have been on only a few, but all were enjoyable. We once took a train to the Gulf coast, then there was the train we took to get to Seattle for our Alaskan cruise. Then of course there was the Brit Rail in England/Scotland... and then the Chunnel from England to France! All fun... and comfortable.

Debbie - maintaining these old rail tracks and trains is a labor of love, and we all benefit! We used to ride a lot of trains when the kids were younger, but I still enjoy it. The last time was a work outing where we rode the train to a certain stop (our bikes were loaded in the back), and then we pedaled our way back to the point of origin. It was a lot of fun.

I love trains too. Many years ago my aunt use to work for a mystery train that traveled from Indianapolis to Chicago. It put on a show for the riders to pick up clues of who done it type mystery. Oh the stories she use to tell us...thank you for the memory.

I understand your crush! We like trains a lot and an Amtrak trip halfway across the country (years ago now) remains one of our best travel memories . Love the scenic trains we've been on also. We grew up in I think the only county in the USA that does NOT have any train tracks (a forgotten corner in Eastern Washington State) and after all this time, they still seem special to me! (I don't even mind waiting at a crossing).

You do live in an area with lots of places to visit that are so beautiful and interesting. I, too, have been fascinated by trains. I had an Aunt who had a train display that her husband made and ran the trains around the tract. It was one of the best that I have ever seen through the years.
I loved all the photos of the train, and I like seeing the photos of you two, along with the picture of the old timer that told the story.
This was a fun post!
Big hugs and love to you two!
