It wasn't really a trek...
The title is a bit misleading it was more like a train ride up the mountain.
Yep...that was it, a train ride up Mt. Washington on the Cog Railway,
perhaps you have heard of it.
It is the world's first mountain climbing Cog Railway to the top of the highest peak in the northeast.
It opened to the public on July 3, 1869.
It climbs approximately 3 miles to the summit.
They had a small museum in the waiting area...
These maps were on the wall for people to place a pin to indicate where you were from,
New Jersey was full.
Original steam engine that powered the first cog rail train.

We saw and spoke to a lot of hikers - brave, interesting people!

Hello,
Sounds like a fun time, the train ride is much easier than a hike up the mountain. Sorry it was foggy. The museum looks nice too. Take care, enjoy your day!
I am so bummed! I had planned to join a bus tour to this location and was looking forward to it. I love trains. But, my daughter backed out and I didn't take the trip by myself... I should have.
We would probably be crazy enough to hike up there. I wonder if one can hike up and bus down? There are no pins from our area. A couple from Rapid City but nothing just south of there. Looks like a beautiful area!
It's too bad that it was so foggy at the top. I imagine the view would be beautiful, but cold. I have heard of Mt. Washington because of its extreme weather. I've seen some TV shows about the scientists who study it. I looked at Wikipedia to check on it and learned that the record for wind speed not related to a tornado or tropical storm belongs to Mt. Washington at 231 mph! Can you imagine being in that kind of wind? By the way, weren't your feet frozen? Mine certainly would be. I would love the train ride to the top.
This looks like a great trek. I love old trains!
3 miles is a long train ride up a mountain by cogging. I didn't even like the few cogs in the internal gondola ride up to the top of the St. Louis arch. But the view and history is amazing. Linda in flat Kansas
A interesting outing but a bit cold at the summit. Sorry about the fog as I am sure the view is amazing.
Looks like y'all had a great trip up the mountain, that pic of you by the train is so cute, Debbie! I think I would be afraid to ride the train! LOL
A great trip and wonderful photos. Love the foggy ones especially. I've loved foggy weather since I was a child. Thank you for getting me in touch with Theresa. I was so happy to hear from her. I have been catching up on my messages as I was away for a wedding - no wi-fi - gasp! ;) When I saw her name I just about did a whoop-whoop I was so happy. Thanks again Debbie and can't say enough how very much I appreciated you doing that.
That's a bummer you couldn't see more but I bet the ride was interesting. We went up Pikes Peek while in Colorado and we drove it but we did come along people that were hiking it and I was just totally amazed.
How fun!
So glad y'all had a great time! I always see that you're wearing flip flogs (like me) are you sure you're not from Florida? :)
xoxo
