This is the pretty House Sparrow
Also called the English Sparrow because it was first introduced from England
and is the most common Sparrow like bird in cities.
It has flourished since it's introduction to North America, first in New Your City in the mid 19th century,
now common and widespread in towns, parks, gardens and farms.
They are a beautiful brown with a striking feather pattern,
the male and female are distinctively different.

I love your bird pictures, Debbie. I live in suburban St. Louis and have 5 feeders, each with a different food, right outside my window so I can see my birds up close. We have a sparrow here that's unique to the St. Louis area, although it is slowly expanding its territory. It's the Eurasian Tree Sparrow. It looks a lot like the house sparrow, but has some different colors and markings. The original 12 birds introduced in St. Louis in 1870 came from Germany. Their descendants number about 15,000 individuals today.
Our most common birds out here are the Mountain Bluebird and Meadowlark. I was actually planning on getting a few photographs of them for my next post.
I love sparrows. I’ve never seen a house sparrow though.

Hello Debbie,:=) You have captured the sparrow in all it's beauty. The female appears to be a young bird and so cute! :=) I don't know why in the birding world, they are refereed to as "little brown jobs," when they are so attractive.
Gorgeous sparrow images. I do love the feather pattern on both the male and female. It is funny how the male birds always seem to have a bit more color than the female birds.
