Don't It Always Seem To Go....

that you don't know what you've got till it's gone...Joni Mitchel

The electric went out early last Tuesday morning, it didn't come back on for days...
it was hot and humid here in the house.
Tuesday night we received a frightening call,
one of our buildings in our business park was on fire.
We rushed to the property to find the street was closed,
there had to be at least 10 of the big firetrucks and 100 fireman battling the blaze.
We were heartbroken, as we stood and watched our hard work,
and our tenants businesses burn to the ground.
In all, 4 units are a total loss,
the rest have damage to their doors as the fireman pried the doors open to check for fire.
They have soot and smoke damage, all have been red stickered by the town.

Here is a link to the video of the fire, heart breaking for us to watch.
The police, firemen, EMT, everyone that was there that night,
they are amazing people who worked so hard under the most extreme conditions.
They all treated us with the upmost respect.
No one was inside the building and no one was injured.
The fire was caused by a power surge when the power went back on in the building.
Our power did not come back on at our house until Thursday evening.

Here is the aftermath...

Hello Debbie,
I am so sorry. I have been thinking about you, since you had not posted. I am glad no one was hurt in the fire and for the hard working firemen. Take care, sending prayers!

That really is heart breaking. I am thankful no one was hurt but what a huge loss. It's so hard to recover from something that devastating. I'm glad your power is back on finally. I'm keeping you all in my prayers. Sweet hugs, Diane

Oh my dear friend, I am so sad to read and see this. I can't imagine how hard it was to watch all this happen. Fires are so destructive. I have a great respect for the police, firemen and EMT's. We have had several friends through the years that have been firemen, police officers and EMT. I am happy that no one was injured but I am sure this is huge loss for you two.
Then on top of it all to have no electricity at home. I did note that you hadn't posted anything for 4 days, so I was concerned.
Sending loving thoughts, prayers and lots of hugs your way!

Oh Debbie, I am so sorry to read this and see your photographs.
It's a huge loss, but thankfully no-one was hurt.
It certainly sounds that the police, firemen, and EMT were all wonderful.

Saying a prayer and thinking of you and Chuck at this time.

All the best Jan

thanks so much jean, and thanks so much for reaching out to me, i can feel your love!! we are dealing with a commercial building and a lot of tenants, it makes things a lot more complicated. our insurance company has visited the property 3 times already, with one more visit to go. it is going to be a very large claim, they are required to have all the different divisions look at the damage. all of the gas and electric meters were on that end of the building, you can imagine all that is involved and them multiply that times 20!! thanks again jean!!

Oh my .... so scary and so overwhelming. I know how much pride you both take in your properties and how hard you work to maintain them beautifully. As much work, and as difficult as all this is, I know you and Chuck are handling it with grace and honesty, tenacity and diligence. My heart is with you both!

I'm very sorry to hear this, Debbie! As if the loss of power wasn't bad enough it's ironic the restoration of power caused the fire. Insult to injury. It's obviously great that no one was injured. I feel for the people who lost their businesses, though, and will be starting over. I hope it works out that you guys can rebuild there at some point.

So very sorry that this happened, hope they were insured but nothing can cover the total loss of it all. Glad it was due to electrical and not the riots we see on the news.

Oh my Debbie, I am so sorry to hear of this tragedy. So glad to hear that no person was injured, just think if it would have came on when people were inside. I hope that everyone had good insurance and rebuilding can happen soon. I am glad to hear that your power is back on too, this heat is a bad time to be without. Companies from our area were sent to Connecticut to help get things up and running. So good to hear that all the emergency people were so helpful and good to you all. Big hugs my friend.

Oh my gosh Debbie, this is awful!! I am so so so sorry for this bad turn of events. Dang, it must be overwhelming for sure. I had a feeling something might be wrong. Turns out it was way more than your electric being out. I'm glad your power is back on and I hope all the insurance details will be worked out QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY AND CORRECTLY. Hugs, my friend!

Debbie - what an awful experience. I can only imagine how you felt when you stood there watching and unable to do anything. Heartbroken probably does not even begin to cover it. Praying that the insurance claim process will go smoothly and you can begin to re-build.

Such a harsh thing to happen. Mercifully, no lives lost. I hope the formalities do not drag on for everyones sakes.

Hang in there. It will all be ok.
We had a fire at our business a few years ago so I can empathize with every emotion you had watching the blaze.
My heart goes out to you and hubs.

oh no! I am so sorry to see this Debbie. I was going to come back and comment on any previous posts you made but I had no idea it would be something like this. We had a house fire years ago and I remember having flashbacks of seeing smoke off, even the smell, and on for months. My heart goes out to you and your hubby, and all those who were affected by this loss, and with everything else going on too. Big hugs from me! Makes me realize yet again how thankful I am for our firefighters.
