Sunday was designated to be a "rest" day for us!!
We had a very busy week and I look forward to rest days.
It means staying home, relaxing and doing fun things.
It involves taking lots of pictures in the yard
and of my beautiful feathered friends.
Mid morning Sunday, I brought out the big guns,
shelled peanuts, on the deck rail
and it did not take long for the yard to be filled with "hungry" birds!!
But today we are going to focus on Mr. Male Cardinal
This guy was a riot.
He watched me, and every single bird that landed in the yard.
He posed...
displayed his super powers by chasing off Mr. Blue Jay...
he paced...
kept guard..
and fluttered his feathers if anyone got close.
What he didn't do...
was eat, one, single peanut!!
He sure looked like he could use a few...
he was super bright red and super skinny.
Maybe he's on a diet, trying to impress the Mrs.
At some point Mr. Squirrell showed up and Mr. Red knew he had met his match.
More on that tomorrow!!

Oh what fun. Maybe he was waiting to see what else you were serving. I want a rest day too!
laughing at this strutter! what a goofball!
What great shots. He looks like he is loaded with personality.
He was waiting for the second course! :-) What a beauty, but he does look skinny! I love the story that goes along with your photos.
I was just thinking he looked a bit thin. :)
Ha! Guarding the food you aren't even going to eat...there's a lesson in there somewhere!!?! LOVE the shot of him on one leg! I have 5 days of work until my REST day - workshoppers all weekend - so I'm looking forward to next Saturday!
I love this series of shots; he sure was showing off for you....Maybe he had a tummy ache and just didn't want any of the other birds having any since he couldn't....
Welcome Debbie!
Cardinal lovely. Your photos are stunning.
I cordially greet.
Lucia
It so nice to look at your pictures! It's almost like a cartonmagasin. You know, like Donald Duck or something.
He's a little ham! And self-appointed guardian of the peanuts! Haha. Funny that he didn't eat at least one!
What a funny guy! He is a little thin isn't he!
Cute series and captions! Mr Cardinal was really striking the pose for you! I have never seen the Cardinals eat peanuts. Great shots, Debbie!
What an amazing look wee bird. Love his hairdo!!! You certainly got some wonderful shots of him too. Hope you enjoyed your rest day :))
LOL! I've never seen a Cardinal chase off a Blue Jay. It's always the other way around. The funniest part of all of that was he didn't eat any peanuts!
HI Debbie...To funny, Cardinals are usually the shy ones, there has to be a girl involved in this somewhere!!
Maybe he was trying to get here to go out to eat with him!! ; )
Cute pic's and great captions!

Funny fellow! He is skinny...our cardinals are pretty husky, but they haven't had to dig through snow for food! :-)
Aw! Maybe he was waiting on his best gal to show up.
Mr. Cardinal is adorable. It looks like he is performing for you.
I think he was more concerned about showing his good side for pictures than he was about eating.LOL
Thanks for sharing such great photos. I can't believe he was so busy strutting that he didn't eat.
Such a pretty bird... and you spoil them!!
He is rather small, but also very, very handsome!
What fun and very entertaining. I love the cardinals that visit, they have quite a personality. Great photos Debbie!
What a star!
What a very cute post. You took incredible pictures and the story was awesome. You really could make a book out of all the unique pictures you take.
I loved finding out you are a nurse. We do indeed have some things in common.
Blessings!
Oh how funny! I wonder why he wouldn't eat? How silly!
Debbie, what a great show you have managed to capture!!! You would think he would have taken a few of the peanuts for the Mrs, hard at work at the nest...
He's got all the right moves!
How funny! Love how he posed for you!
Great series of his actions. The flowers for today are beautiful, but there's no place to leave a comment.
What a cute little cardinal!
What a cutie your male cardinal is! Darling photos of him!
What a fun series of photos. This guy was pretty funny. I especially liked the one where he's balancing on one leg.
The cardinals here never put on quite a show as yours, Debbie, maybe I should switch from sunflower seeds to peanuts?
