We're talking haircut here folks,
not the other "buzz",
the buzz I have not experienced since high school!
Goodness, how do I get so distracted right out of the box??
So back to the topic,
my Blue Jays are sporting a new "do"!
First, let me show you what we are talking about,
they are molting.
According to the articles I read, this is normal in the fall!
Sheeezzzzz, is it fall already??
What concerns me about this one, is the hole on the side of his head.
I do hope he is o.k.
I will say, that it has not, in any way,
hindered his ability to eat and he seems joyful.
No need to wonder where all this is molting is happening.
When I came home the other day, the deck was covered with
Blue Jay feathers.
It's apparent he received his haircut right here on the deck!!

Oh my, that is one crazy-looking bird!
My son looks better in a buzz cut than this dude. Not my favorite bird stage...but kinda fascinating. And fall??!! Hmmmmm, not yet, I say - not yet!
i believe that's his ear hole. fugly guys, aren't they?
giggle...they look so strange with no feathers...you gathered some great shots. We don't get any bluejays in our yard so this is a treat to see.
I love the colours of your friendly bird. wow! he was really busy eating! lucky you that you could photograph him so well. I've little luck with birds. they are not used to be feed by humains around here. thanks for sharing. I'm your new follower ;) wishing you a beautiful weekend. xxo
My chickens have the hole in the side of their head at the same place. If you rub it they always go to sleep. :)
I have never seen a blue jay look like that before. It does look like he got a army buzz cut.
Now I will be looking at the ones in our yard.
Very nice shots.
That's interesting! Bride Swan has been coming up on land the last few days, and there are white feathers EVERYWHERE. I was hoping she was just molting, and that nothing was wrong.

I had no idea bluebirds molted - interesting (shhh! don't tell him, but the buzz cut isn't his look....just saying!) :)
Awe the wee chap - he does look better with all of his feathers in place. :)
I learned something new today. I had no idea that birds molted. That is one scrappy looking fellow.
I've never, ever seen a molting blue jay! Thanks for the peek. He looks quite..um....amusing!
Poor little ugly guy with the beautiful body. Stunning photos again!
They do look comical with that short do.Haven't seen any like that around here yet,but I usually do.
He does look funny without his crest. The hole you see is his ear. He should be back to his handsome self in a few weeks.
He does look a little "ratty"! Nice to know he will be lovely again!
Z ptakiem wszystko musi być ok, bo jest śliczny. Pozdrawiam.
The bird everything must be ok, because it's pretty. Yours.
Looking more like turkey vultures at the moment. Yikes! :)
What pictures; wow! The color of the bird is so beautiful. Nature just has so many secrets to uncover and this is one. Who would know that they are going through a buzz. The pictures are so awesome.
Blessings!
Do hope he is okay ~ Fantastic Photography~ (A Creative Harbor)
That certainly does look odd, doesn't it?
I've never seen that in my life! It looks like some alien bird stole a Blue Jay's body! Wow! Not nearly as handsome as right now. I think the hole is actually the ear canal.
I didn't realize that happened to blue jays! - I mean, I didn't realize there little heads looked like -well - military recruits ;)
We used to have 2 pet ducks and they did that! So weird!!!
Is it Fall already? No way!
Great shots! You have such a wonderful blog!
My goodness- what gorgeous patters & that COLOR!!! I love it.
Wow, is it really fall. Must be starting earlier this year. I feel sorry for the birds when they molt. They look so sad. Great shot, thanks for sharing. Hope you are having a great weekend.
They sure are molting and I hope the hole in his head is okay! sandie
Is there a chemo treatment for birds. He needs a soft hat!!!
Oh my gosh that looks so weird! Fascinating but totally weird.
