I am once again having some difficulties
and have been in the hospital since early Thursday morning.
I hope to go home tomorrow.

Looking For Love, In All The Wrong Places

This is only the second time I have seen this woodpecker in my yard.

 

Last summer, two came, stayed the day and were gone.

 

These pictures were taken on August 15, 2012 during this years visit.

Two came, stayed the day and I have not seen them since!! 

They stayed on the ground the entire time,

"flickering" through the grass looking for food.

 

They are hard to miss,

the bright red heart on the back of his head is remarkable!!

An immature Robin Red Breast

sits quietly in the shade of my favorite tree.

That cute slight tilt of the head, gets me every time. 

 

And that little unfinished beak, that says

I'm not fully grown yet!!

 

I sure do wish I had cut back that one branch on this special tree.

Turn and Duck!

I spent hours trying to come up with a fun title for this post.

I was disappointed to learn that although duck has

two meanings, both are spelled the same!!

Humor me please, 

maybe one or two of you could say "great title", if anyone even gets it.

A Summer Buzzzzz

We're talking haircut here folks,

not the other "buzz",

the buzz I have not experienced since high school!

Goodness, how do I get so distracted right out of the box?? 

So back to the topic,

my Blue Jays are sporting a new "do"!

First, let me show you what we are talking about,

 they are molting.

According to the articles I read, this is normal in the fall!

Sheeezzzzz, is it fall already??

What concerns me about this one, is the hole on the side of his head.

I do hope he is o.k.

I will say, that it has not, in any way,

 hindered his ability to eat and he seems joyful.

No need to wonder where all this is molting is happening.

When I came home the other day, the deck was covered with

Blue Jay feathers.

It's apparent he received his haircut right here on the deck!!

Beach Treasures

If you follow my blog, you know

I am forever searching our beautiful beaches for sea glass.

With too many entries to list,

a few can be viewed here and here.

On April 29, 2012 as I was looking for sea glass,

a kind fisherman handed me some glass and a piece of pottery,

I later found the other one.

That entry is worth reading and can be viewed here.

There is some writing on the pottery,

the hubs "googled" it and here's what he found:

In researching Maritime Disasters in the Atlantic Ocean

that originated from Great Britain, this plate may have come from

the wreck of the HMS Captain.

The ship perished on September 7, 1870.

The sad news is, 480 sailors perished that day, only 18 survived. 

The pottery is beautiful, it's edges are soft and worn.

For me, it's a treasured piece of history!

A Loving Heart...

On August 5th, the hubs had to leave early to run some errands
 and take care of some business related things.

Now when I say he left early, we are talking e.a.r.l.y.

I didn't get up with him like I usually do.

When I woke up I found the following note on the kitchen counter...

He wrote this on a napkin and left my pills out for me.

I call him the pill police because, well,
I don't know if I really even need to explain that.

O.K., I'll explain!!

Every week he fills my old lady pill thingy.

Every day he puts my pills out, and makes sure I take them.

So, that's my Random Heart

it's not that random but it sure did make my day!!

Hey, Where Are You Going...

On Saturday, as I was getting ready to leave,

this little Chickadee was sitting by the window,

trying desperately to get my attention.

I didn't really have time to play with him.

The feeders and bird bath were full
but that's not what he wanted, he wanted attention.

I was so happy I stopped to snap these images,

through the glass window but they aren't to bad!!

He was still sitting there when I left,
I hope he found a friend to play with!!
