The Mohonk Mountain House

We slipped away for a few days to
The Mohonk House in New Paltz, New York
Founded by the Smiley Family in 1869,
this Victorian castle resort is nestled just beyond the southern boarder of
The Catskill Mountains.
Surrounded by 40,000 acres of pristine forest, 85 miles of hiking trails,
and Mohonk Lake, this resort has something for everyone.

Saturday Critters ~ 249 ~

I have seen more butterflies this year than ever before...
and the Monarchs are still hanging around.

These are 4th generation Monarchs, born in August or September.

Monarch Butterflies go through four stages during one life cycle,
and through four generations in one year.
The first, second and third generations live only 2 - 6 weeks...
while the 4th generation of Monarchs - born in September and October
migrate to warmer climates in winter and live approximately 6 - 8 months.

It is amazing how the four generations of Monarch butterflies works out
so that the Monarch population can continue to live on throughout the years.

Soon they will be off to Mexico and California where they will enjoy their winter.
I wish them a safe journey!
