The Yellow Rumped Warblers
have returned to my feeders...they will stay here for the winter.
I only see these birds during the cold weather.
They have been nicknamed "Butter-Butt".
They are able to stay north because they are attracted to and able to digest waxy berries of plants like the Bayberry and Wax Myrtles.
They are the only Warbler that does not migrate to Florida.Male Downy Woodpecker
The Downy Woodpecker is the smallest of all of the woodpeckers,
they excavate a hole in a tree to prepare for nest building.
Males and females are similar, the male has a red patch on the back of it's head, the female does not.

I always get the Downy and Hairy mixed up. How can you tell the difference between the two for sure?
The downies are adorable. All the warblers left here ages ago. They are smart to head south. The poor little things wouldn’t stand our cold.
Such pretty warblers. The downy is adorable too, we are luck in having 4 types of woodpeckers visit, and one year we had a red headed one too.
The downy and hairy have similar markings, but the hairy is longer. I did a comparison post on my website awhile ago. https://craftygardener.ca/downy-hairy-woodpeckers/
Hello Debbie,
Beautiful photos of the warblers and the Downy Woodpeckers.
They are both great birds to see in your yard!
Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
thanks linda, this is so helpful. when i compare the 2 in my book, they are so similar. i think the "bushy" hair around their beak is a little different also!!
I loved reading about the Yellow-Rumped Warblers' ability to stay north because of the waxy berries! And the male Downy Woodpecker's little red cap is so striking. Great post, Debbie!
A lot of people call these Warblers butterbutt here in FL. They are so precious. And thanks so much for your continued prayers and help with the hard times we are going through. Your friendship means the world to me, Debbie! Hugs, Diane
Those warblers are so cute and you pics are wonderful as usual.
Great pictures of your feathered friends Debbie.
Enjoy your weekend.
All the best Jan
You got EXCELLENT shots of the birds.
Cute winter guests. Great shots of them!
You do have a great viewing spot for these bird close-ups, Debbie. I liked how the woodpecker was grasping the tree branch.
Beautiful photos of your wintering birds.
Wonderful photos of the birds in your yard. The woodpecker is especially stunning.
Gorgeous pics, I don't know if I have seen the first one, love the touch of yellow on him. Our woodpeckers were here for quite awhile and haven't seen them in a few days, not sure if they have gone on or what.
Great shots of these lovely birds!
