Staring with my favorite way...
releasing the Black Swallowtail Butterflies that have spent the winter with me.
If you have followed my blog for any length of time, you know that I raise butterflies.
If you are "newer" to my blog, this could be news to you.
Instead of telling the entire story,
I will spare you the specifics today and share a few older posts that detail the process.
The Joyful Butterfly shares the best information for getting started with this amazing hobby.
Female Black Swallowtail Butterfly
She visited my garden dill last September, formed into a chrysalis and spent the winter in that form.
Yesterday, she emerged.
She was so perfectly beautiful, a little hesitant to fly off...but after a few pictures, she took to the sky.
Spring flowers really help in enjoying the season.
This Iris is not in my garden but I wish it was.
We passed in on an outing and the hubs turned the car around so I could photograph it.
I have never seen a peach colored Iris before...
there were several grouped together and they were all healthy and gorgeous.
It is also Rhododendron season, they come in so many colors...
but this color is my favorite!
Isn't it just wonderful how everything blooms in turn, all the flowers have their own time to show off.
This is one of the Roses on my Knockout Rose Bushes.
I have 4 bushes and they are all filled with blooms.
They are wonderful, free nutrition for your gardens.
I watched a video on Instagram about the Chicken Pot Pies available at KFC.

We purchased one and split it, it was surprisingly delicious.
We are in the middle of a heat wave, it was 92 degrees yesterday, I do not enjoy the heat.

Debbie, you raised a beautiful butterfly and with all those beautiful blooms in your yard, it may stay around 🙂. Yes, NJ is the only state where attendants still pump gas. Oregon was another but discontinued in 2023.
Hello, Debbie,
The heat has arrived here too. Time to turn the AC on.
Your flowers are gorgeous and I love your butterflies.
I will have to try that chicken pot pie. Looks yummy.
Take care, enjoy your day and the new week ahead.
What is spring? While things are starting to green up, we still have lows below freezing. Love your butterfly pictures and stories. I imagine them living their best lives after you release them
Girl, I am with you on this heat!! Not my favorite by far. Love your photographs, always so beautiful. You must get great joy of raising butterflies. What a neat thing to do.
She is a beauty! The flowers too!
The iris is gorgeous! I don’t think I’ve seen that color before.
Beautiful flowers. Stay cool.
May
That is such a wonderful thing to do! I don't see butterflies like I used to. We save egg shells and then bake them and store for the tomato plants in my husband's garden. I also occasionally use crushed tums. I love the flowers. The Iris is just beautiful.
Your butterflies 🦋 are so beautiful! So amazing how you raise them. That iris is gorgeous and definitely not a color I see often. Our day lilies have burst into bloom, seems like just overnight!--- ours are white, planted here decades ago. Our Mandevilla is also in full bloom and my miniature rosebush 🌹 and the big one too.
Phew 92 degrees that is HOT!!!
Lovely butterflies and blooms.
All the best Jan
The butterflies and flowers are so pretty. Your photos are amazingly gorgeous. WOW!!
92 sounds really hot. We rarely get those high temperatures even in summer!
Today is our first day home and it hit 97 here is bucks county Pa - It was only 83 in Florida today!!! I love all the spring flowers so pretty. Since we came home a month early I got to see my beautiful peonies which are usually gone by end of June. The Black Swallowtail Butterfly is beautiful and so amazing it sat on your hand.
Love your butterflies. We do that as science project at my school. One year it wouldn't stop snowing and we ended up with butterflies flying all around the school. I celebrate spring wrapped in blankets drinking coffee on the porch. Except this morning because it was 30 degrees and snowing.
Well, I definitely have missed that you raised butterflies. How fantastic. I will go read those posts. I absolutely love KFC potpies.
Beautiful photos, Debbie. I made a special post on my blog describing the Blogger issues in great detail.
Oh, and thankfully the heat 🥵 🔥 has not arrived yet here in Montreal, but it will and when it does, I cannot handle the intense heat 😫 and humidity we get...and the wildfires.
thank you...i read it but you had the comments turned off!!
Thank you 😊 Yes, only on that post I turned off the comments.
That butterfly is gorgeous and so are all the flowers. That heat sounds brutal. I've heard of the KFC chicken pot pie but haven't had it.
Debbie, those Black Swallowtails are beautiful... and have always been my favorite. Releasing them is almost a religious experience. And that pale tinted Iris is gorgeous... that color flower is so delicate...
How neat you are releasing your butterflies again, she is a beauty, so neat they stay for pictures before going off :)
I have never seen an iris that color either, just beautiful, your roses are lovely too!
We have had some warm days but thankfully we are enjoying some really nice temps in the high 60's low 70's, that is my temperatures :) I can't take the heat anymore.
We usually go to KFC once a month but have never tried their pot pies.
Amazing that the butterflies sit on your hands. She is beautiful.
