You would double this recipe to make 2 good sized mugs.
Combine all ingredients, everything into one pot...make sure you add the vanilla,
adding vanilla really elevates the flavor of hot chocolate.
The aroma of this simering on the stove is intoxicating.
Top with one of these...
I made these "toppers" to place on top of the hot cocoa, so it would feel extra special.
To make these toppers, swirl whipped cream from the can, onto a plate,
topped with jimmies, sanding sugar and snow flakes.
Place them into the freezer until your hot chocolate is ready.
One or two on top...
our special hot cocoa was amazing, so rich, so creamy and chocolatey...it was on the "Winter Bucket List" so I just had to make it!
And speaking about the Bucket List, here's a peek at what we have done so far.
This is a picture of my Bucket List Calendar.
I really enjoyed this calendar throughout the year and ordered another for 2026.
It comes with bucket list suggestions and stickers.
I use the stickers they provide and stickers from my scrapbooking collection.

That homemade cocoa looks delicious, Debbie, and while I have made a similar recipe in the past, recently I’ve used the Swiss Miss Decadent Dark Chocolate (just add hot water) brand, adding some half & half with whipped cream topping. That is a fun calendar too. We’re leaving the decos up a bit longer as they were put up later.
O.k. that hot cocoa looks amazing! I love the idea of whip topping, thanks for sharing.
Fantastic calendar, and the hot chocolate looks delicious. I've had it for ages. Now I'm craving it. Have a wonderful weekend.
I always love seeing your Bucket Lists!!
Hot chocolate! 👏
Whip cream or marshmallow Fluff…both.

Those toppers look delicious by themselves! And I always love your bucket list, though mine for winter has to be pretty short!
OH my, what a yummy treat! Thanks for sharing!
Take care, enjoy your day and happy weekend.
That homemade cocoa looks delicious, Debbie ... and I do like those mugs.
All the best Jan
Hot chocolate was on the agenda when the kids stayed over but we ran out of time. Next time!
Haven't heard of freezing the whipping cream! Linda in Kansas
I remember when my mom used to make homemade hot chocolate-so simple and so good. The toppers take it over the top!!! Looks delicious.
Old-fashioned hot cocoa is the best.
Love the vanilla tip, and those whipped cream toppers make it feel extra special.
Happy 2026!
Yum.
LOOOVE the cuppas! Very fun. Did you ever put a little spice into the hot chocolate? It's not too bad. Thank you, yes, I'd love the blocks. I currently don't have email. I have it, but not access right now. I'll drop my address in one of your older posts, if you can then delete it, that'd be wonderful. Thank you for thinking of me. That's really really nice.
This is great! Thank you for the recipe too. I am going to make myself a hot chocolate later. Those toppers are a clever idea. The only thing I don’t have is a couple of festive mugs. I am going to have to fix that real soon. Have a splendid weekend Debbie :)
Oh my goodness does that look delicious, I will have to try this, I so love those adorable snowman cups too!! Looks like you got quite a bit done!
