I love growing plants, any kind of plant...especially if it's something I can eat or cook with.
My outdoor herb garden is finished for the season.
My indoor Basil plant was out of control, so I took an hour or so
to clean things up and start a-new.
Although I had a lot of Basil, I did not have enough to make a batch of pesto.
So I gave the plant a serious haircut and instead, I decided to dry it.
Some of this I will use and some I put in cute little jars and gift at Christmas time.

I'm using this container for my winter indoor herb garden.
I put rocks in the bottoms of the jars...
I purchased my seeds at Longwood Gardens...
I could have purchased them anywhere, but the herbs will feel nice and special
since the seeds came from one of my favorite places.

I used good Miracle Grow Soil and planted my seeds!!
And just because everything needs markers, there are markers!
I refreshed the soil in my "always indoor" basil plant and it is making a nice comeback...
as are my chives, I cut them all the way back and recently used them in an omelet.
The basil is drying out nicely, almost ready to be jared up for future use!
I love your indoor garden - I need to try that! The basket and jars are perfect!

ReplyDeleteLiving under huge oaks...not a lot of plants survive in our house. I think the pack of dogs has something to do with that too. :)

Oh you busy little bee... harvesting your basil crop.... I am so jealous. My basil is from a sprinkler spice jar and I have probably had it 100 years!!

ReplyDeleteI love it when you do a tutorial type post like this one. I may even try to grow some herbs myself. Believe it or not I do have a Basil plant that is doing nicely. When my oldest daughter was here we bought one for her since we couldn't find any in the produce department. I think I could actually do this one. I like your little jars for growing your herbs too. I hadn't thought about that I could actually dry them too. Blessings and hugs~
