Saturday Critters ~ 114 ~

I have a lot of frequent flyers in my backyard.
Each bird, has a different personality.
Many birds that visit are of the grab and go variety, many linger forever,
often sitting right in the feeder itself.

So if I want to capture an image of a particular bird, I know exactly how much time I have.
If I am sitting and have the wrong lens on the camera,
I wouldn't bother getting up for a Woodpecker or Cardinal .
But if a Bluejay, Chickadee or Sparrow comes,
I can run around the room, find the camera,
put the memory card in, change the lens and still get an awesome picture.
You getting my drift!!

I've been home a lot, hanging with the birds,
here are a few of my favorite images from the thousands I have taken.

  1. Fantastic shots, Debbie! you should have these complied into a bird watchers book! I still love the male House Finch best just because he's colourful but your first couple of shots are amazing!
    Enjoy your day!

  4. These are so beautiful, they take my breath away! I see them flitting around, but I can really study their beauty through your images! My favorite is the first shot of the wren. Second, would be the tufted titmouse. I love their elegant look. Do you mind sharing what lens you use? Do you shoot using shutter speed setting and use a tripod? I've never been able to get good bird pictures. It would be fun to work on that.

    1. all of the images are taken handheld. i have a nikon that i use as a point and shoot....i don't know anything about shutter speed!!! the birds come in very close to the window, i use a 300mm zoom lens!! my pictures are not protected on-line if you would ever like to use one for wallpaper on your computer or really any other reason. i always hope other people can enjoy them!!!!!

    2. Thank you, Debbie! They are gorgeous. My bird feeder is not close to the window, therefore when I want a picture I have to go outside. They hear and see me and fly away! I've tried sitting very still and waiting for them to come back, but they have more patience than I do!

  10. Hello Debbie!:) The beauty of these images is beyond belief, I am in awe of them all. Your Nuthatch photos are much better than mine!!:) The White Breasted Nuthatch is a real beauty, and I have only just realized that I should have titled mine as a Eurasian Nuthatch. The first image of the female Downy Woodpecker is stunning,... perhaps my favourite, but it's really hard to choose.:)

  23. It is so nice that you put the names of the birds with the pictures, I love birds but have no clue what their names are except for more common ones. I think you do a wonderful job of capturing them and I like to see all kinds of birds but I will have to say the poses you captured in the woodpecker were very cool!!

  24. I had to smile at your knowledge of whether or not to bother looking for the camera for a photo opportunity. I can certainly see why these are your favorites. Beautiful!

  28. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I have to say the Yellow-rumped Warbler. They are feisty "big" for their small size! I enjoy seeing that little sun-dappled bird at "his" bowl of peanut butter, and watching him defend his territory.
