New daytime Christmas Eve tradition, building the
Gingerbread Castle
I had a little help from "the boys", and we all had a ton of fun.
Here it is all finished up, it's a "beaut" don't ya think?
Christmas morning was quiet,
but I sure was happy to have youngest son Mike at home.

It seems to me that everyone was making gingerbread houses about thirty years ago, but here at least hardly anyone seems to do that any more, and the adults who were children then don’t seem to have continued with it. At that time I knew a woman who had immigrated to Canada from Germany and she made the most incredible ginger bread creations - houses, sleighs, Santa Claus........and all without instructions. She had learned the tradition from her mother.
ReplyDeleteQueit Christmases are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOf course the only comment I have been able to post in a week has a spelling mistake! Lol.
ReplyDeleteDidn't it turn out cute! I didn't know they had kits already make and ready to put together:) Glad you had your son for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out really nice! You have some good carpenters! :-)
ReplyDeleteYour gingerbread house is great, I love the lights on it, great new tradition you have started. I am so glad your son was able to make it home, makes it that much more special, my daughter will be coming home sometime this summer :)
ReplyDeleteOne of the most fun times we had at Christmas was when we had a gingerbread (well, graham cracker) house competition. Family members were divided into two teams and given graham crackers (instead of gingerbread), frosting and numerous candy choices. A timer was set and we were off. Both creations were neat but it was the collapsed walls, the fun and laughter that have remained in my memory.
ReplyDeleteoooooh this is so true, it sounds amazing!!!
DeleteI bet you did. What a fun gingerbread house.

ReplyDeleteSoon after Christmas, Japanese people start preparing for the year-end and New Year’s events.
ReplyDeleteCompared to Christmas, many of these events are based on Japanese tradition and are deeply related to religion.
The end-of-year party is called “bonenkai” in Japanese. “Bonen” means to forget (the worries of) the past year.
People are busy with events on New Year’s Eve.
