Take Time To Smell The Flowers

The Gray Catbirds have returned...
I heard them first, I knew they were here, sitting in the tree,
one glance, and yes, there they were.
It's been a long Winter and I have missed them.
Their beautiful song, their meow call and their calm nature.
My bird book says they are here year round, but I never see them during the Winter.

They sport a gray body with a little black cap.
They have a small reddish brown patch under the base of their tail,
you can see it here.
They are know to mimic the songs of other birds but when I hear them,
I almost always just hear their meow call.

Welcome back...welcome home!!

  1. Such a wonderful bird. it is the same family as Mockingbirds and is a very proficient mimic. It should be returning here any day now and we are finally getting weather that looks like spring. A catbird chortling in the undergrowth will enliven our walks.
