The Catbirds!!

The Gray Catbirds leave this area for winter and come back in early spring.
They are not as showy or colorful as many of the other birds,
but they are "sweet" looking and I enjoy their catlike "meow" call.
They are a gentle bird and they are easy to photograph.
All gray with a black cap, they also have a reddish-brown patch under the base of it's tail.

Are we done now??

  9. We call them Mary birds. My daughter's name is Mary, and sometimes their call sounds like her name. When she was little, I used to tell her the birds were calling her.

  18. Amazing portraits....have you ever heard the cat bird. I swear, at times with one of their songs in their many varieties, they DO sound like a cat meowing...aptly named.

Again, thanks for adding the link to this post...this was incredible.

  19. I became a fan of these when one stopped by our backyard for a few days. Later on, we observed one at Colonial Williamsburg, taking full advantage of the food crumbs falling freely.
