The Butterfly Garden

Sometimes, I watch the local news when I knit.
I don't love the news but I like listening to the local news,
where I often hear of fun events happening in our area. 

A few weeks ago, I heard a story about the "Opening" of a 
Butterfly Garden on the 14th Avenue Pier in Seaside Park.
I added it to the bucket list, so I would not forget,
and Saturday we decided to take a ride and see if we could find it.
I knew it was very tiny from watching the story.
But the garden was a labor of love,
created by the local people
in an effort to rebuild and beautify the area after
Super Storm Sandy.

 And it worked!!

 We saw only one Monarch as we were getting in the car,
and it floated off quickly with the gentle breeze.

 When the butterflies do land, this will be their view,

 not too shabby, right?!

 This will be a great "stop over" spot for the Monarchs
in early fall as they begin their migration.

 These beautifully decorated pots 
held some lovely ornamental grass,
and surrounded the outskirts of the garden.

 The path, typical for seashore communities,
was cracked sea shells!!

Lot's of benches, a beautiful view, wow...what a gift
to the butterflies and the community!!

    Wow, that's a lot of cracked shells! You are right not too shabby at all, and the labor of love for the butterfly garden is very touching! A lovely place to hang around.

    What a lovely spot! It will be a joy to see how this idea blossoms as the seasons come and go - I hope the butterflies will find this home and return each year!

    That garden is so beautiful. What a peaceful place it must be. I haven't seen a monarch in ages! I guess we grow the wrong plants.

    I like little pocket parks and this one has a wonderful purpose ...for the butterflies ... As well as adding a spot of beauty and serenity to the area.

    We have some butterfly gardens near by and shamed to say we have not visited them. We must try to get there in September.

    I am sure it will be lovely when the butterflies catch on. Gorgeous location and bravo to the locals for constructing it.

    There is a beautiful butterfly plant that grows wild here. I wanted one close to my water garden. The only one I found was smack dab in the middle a healthy patch of Poison Oak. Needless to say I am waiting to find another.

    I think it is just beautiful. I am so glad you went. I love how pretty everything looks now. Compared to the devastation after Sandy.

    I am always amazed at what hummingbirds and butterflies do.........fly such great distances!! Yes, the dollhouse area you asked me about is a little childrens playground. A cute small one. Its not a big island.

    How neat, it is so good to see people come together to rebuild after something like that happening and making something that everyone can enjoy. We have seen a few more butterflies around here in the past couple of weeks. I planted a few plants that said they would be good for that but haven't had the amount I was hoping for, maybe they come by when I am not looking ;)

    I like the decorated planters and seashell paths, and the flowers. Those would draw me in!
