Who knew there were so many pretty ducks at the Jersey Shore.
I recently spotted another duck I have never seen before!
The Bufflehead
Much like other birds and ducks, the male is prettier.
An up-close look at the head shows a glossy green and purple neck,
surrounded by some striking black and white patches.
This Male Duck was extremely difficult to photograph.
It is a tiny duck, with a larger than life head,
which abruptly vanishes and resurfaces as it feeds.
Spending most of it's time under-water, I felt extremely lucky
to be able to capture these two images.
I also "loved" the pretty, sparkly reflection it cast in the water!

Beautiful shots Debbie. I have only seen these at our WWT centres. Happy St Valentine's day and have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie, the Buffleheads are pretty, especially the males. They do tend to drive you crazy trying to take a photo of them.. Always moving and diving.. Congrats on your new lifer! Great shots! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post.. Have a happy Valentine's Day weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting looking duck. And you are right, its reflection is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love watching these cute ducks dive and then pop up. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the colours of the head. The water seems rather active.

Wow, lucky you, that's an incredible discovery. I miss seeing water and ducks of any kind. Spring is on the way right? Because you can't tell by our weather, that I thought was going to warm up, but instead it went down....way down.... !
ReplyDeleteHe's indeed a very handsome fellow! Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteHe is so pretty! Happy Valentines Day
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty! Hope you're having a wonderful Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteNice captures - he's really pretty!!
ReplyDeleteOh those little ones who bob up and down all the time are awkward to photograph ... you did good! :D)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images. Both the duck and the water patterns are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHe's a beauty! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThey look so lovely on the water ! Beautiful pictures !
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Sunday :)
How nice ... You're very happy in the water !!
ReplyDeleteBesos.
Nice find! Loved the photos.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen this duck either. I like the color of it's head. That first shot is really nice.
ReplyDeleteHe is a beauty
ReplyDeleteI do find it interesting to note that the male is prettier than the female. My Grandson won an art contest a few years back for a painting of the male and female duck. Nature is always so fascinating.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
