Welcome to Point Pleasant Beach, home of "The Sandy Castle"
This sand castle is a dedication to the Jersey Shore,
to help raise awareness and collect donations
for those still recovering from Super Storm Sandy.
50 foot tall, built by Ed Jarrett and 100's of volunteer's,
each part of the castle tells a story.
This side of the castle is carved in Gothic-style,
This side pays tribute to the Barnegat Lighthouse.
The ships of the ocean.
Every day they change the date.
We visited on July 11, 2013.
We found a random heart, for Clytie and lots of love here.

ReplyDeleteOhmigosh, what an amazing structure! I do believe I could spend hours staring at it (most of that time with my mouth dropped open, like it is now!). Sand castles have always amazed me (temporary beauty, kind of like sidewalk chalk drawings) and this one is no exception. Of course I'm a little partial to the heart - thank you for sharing this castle!

Amazing! Great shots - I get a sense of how big it is and of the details. Was Barnegat light damaged/lost in the storms?? I have the sweetest memories from there as a child and some amazing photos my dad took when I was just a kid... Might go link up my invite over at random hearts...thought the heart on the invite wasn't particularly random!!

No feeding, so the alligator eats only sand.

The place of my birth will never be the same- but the clam-diggers will rebuild again as they have always done.
Nice pictures, it could be that we will also visit a sand sculpture festival in Belgium.
