Showing Off!!
A very large, black bird with a small red featherless head.
Landing on the roof of a home, right in my neighborhood!!
These are usually seen in open country and dumps.
They are only occasionally seen in urban areas!!

i do like these guys, and he's especially striking against that blue sky. :)
ReplyDeleteWow. He is huge! Great shots!
ReplyDeleteGreat capture, Deb. Must have been some roadkill around somewhere. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry, but that's a face only a mama could love! Just read all the way back to your butterfly shots...some beautiful photography, enjoyed it all!
ReplyDeleteNot crazy about these guys. Here in Florida you find them on the side of the road cleaning up dead armadillas. When they land on the roof, they make enough noise to get my dogs barking. They remind me of the creepy flying monkeys from Wizard of Oz. Great photography!
ReplyDeleteYes,he was a showing off for you.
ReplyDeleteI only see those creepy scavengers in cartoons. Kinda spooky to see one visit your house. Just don't lay down in the yard even to catch a bit of sun until he leaves. ;oD
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie...I laughed when your post ...I had a few picture of the Turkey Vultures I was going to publish today too ...
ReplyDeleteYours are great and clear ....love it just sitting on the roof lol..
I might be worried there was something dead in the neighborhood since they may be smelling carrion!! lol

What a huge not-so-pretty bird!

ReplyDeleteAwesome shots, Debbie! Quite the impressive wingspan. Cool!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure why but this fellow made me smile :)
ReplyDeleteCertainly a strong individualist;)
Great shots - scary bird!! I like the comment "a face only a mother could love!!"
ReplyDeleteMaybe not the most handsome fella, but your photos make him look quite striking against that blue sky!
ReplyDeleteI live in a small town so am close to country, but they are all the time flying over our little town. And I have seen them on the street a time or two where something has gotten hit.
ReplyDeleteGreat images, btw.
Wow, the first photo is fabulous! What a lovely creature:)
ReplyDeleteWe had some land on our light pole, it was so incredible. I have been a fan ever since.
ReplyDeleteGrand close Up!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos against the blue sky.

These have to be my favorite photos of this cool bird!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot they seem to be hanging around.
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to see an artists conception of a vulture with head feathers! As they are, we could not do without them cleaning up our messy world.
ReplyDeleteOh boy, what next!! lol :D)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!
ReplyDeleteNow that as a figurehead on your roof is quite a status symbol!
ReplyDeleteIncredible! Especially the first shot, where he is showing off!!
