Stories In Sand

On Friday, we traveled to Peddlers Village, in Pennsylvania...
One hour and 15 minutes from home, it is a fun, enjoyable ride, primarily highway without traffic.
We have been here many times, they host a lot of festivals, and a huge Christmas light display
but on Friday we went to see
Three teams of master sand artists turned 330 tons of locally sourced sand into these six spectacular sculptures showcasing stories and characters from
Mother Goose, Alice & Wonderland, Peter Pan, Winnie The Pooh, Once Upon A Time and Jungle Book.
It took the sand artists approximately 125 hours to create each sand sculpture.
Held together initially because the sand is wet,
they are then periodically sprayed with a solution of water and wood glue.
They were created here and finished in June and have held up very well so far.

Mother Goose

Peter Pan...my favorite

- oooooh and we did find Wendy -

Alice In Wonderland
I was not able to get close and could not find the sign.

Winnie-the Pooh was pretty great...

Once Upon A Time...Cinderella

The Jungle Book was pretty awesome!

 - it is not in doing what you like, but in liking what you do, that is the secret of happiness -

  8. Those are pretty darn cool. For a second, I thought that we had been to Peddlers Village when we visited our daughter in Greencastle but it must have been a similar village as this one is no where near where they are.

  10. Beautiful works! It's a pity that art with sand is ephemeral.
