This nest is home to our local Osprey, every year.
They come, they spruce things up and the female lays her eggs, usually two.
They return from their winter break around St. Patrick's Day,
some locals say they come every year right on St. Patrick's Day...I cannot confirm nor deny that.
Some people are adamant, it is on that exact day.
One was working on the nest and always out of sight.
Next up...this
Juvenile Double Crested Cormorant
It looked right at me and certainly knew I was there, yet, it sat so still for pictures.
This Red Winged Blackbird was so beautiful.
It had an extremely shiny coat, sitting on this sign showing off all of its colors.

Ospreys are Irish, who knew?!?!
ReplyDeleteAll over the country there are traditional beliefs about birds returning to a location on an EXACT date, and everybody goes out and looks and confirms the belief, but nobody looks the previous day when they are probably already present! I’m glad you are skeptical. Nice photos.
ReplyDeletebest, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Excellent photos, especially of the osprey.
ReplyDeleteGreat osprey photos. We've been watching the local nest but haven't got any photos yet.
ReplyDeleteI photographed an Osprey this morning and cormorants Yesterday. Amazing critters all. Great shots, Debbie.
ReplyDeleteHello Debbie :=)
ReplyDeleteExquisite photography of all three species. The Osprey is a fine looking raptor, and the plumage of the Blackbird looks so shiny, you even managed to capture the dark eye, a detail that is often not seen in a black bird.
Have a great weekend
All the best.
How neat to see the Osprey! And the Red winged blackbird is a beauty. Enjoy your weekend. Happy Mother's day my friend!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics, Debbie. I especially like the one with the cormorant looking right at you...
