Overlooking The Mallards

When I first arrive at a lake or body of water,
I am instantly on the lookout for an unusual bird or duck.
A critter I rarely see or any"body" who has arrived here for winter.
Just let me insert here that if I had wings and were able to fly...
I would not start to fly south and stop in New Jersey to stay for the winter.
With that said, some do, and I am always happy to see them arrive.

But common here year round and in almost any lake, river or stream or puddle are
Mallards
They are so beautiful and so often overlooked because they are so common.

Ya' gotta love that tail curl!

I took all of these pictures because no one is here yet for winter...

So here's to the mallards and recognizing their feather patterns, tail curl, color and beauty.
You don't get the recognition you deserve!

  1. That is a lovely batch of photos. They are so pretty. I watched some at a pond a couple of years ago. It was so funny to see them fly into the area, and put their feet out and forward to land like water skiing into the pond. Linda in Kansas

  15. They are very overlooked! I love how the green shines in sunlight. Being common doesn't make them any less special.
