Saturday's Critters # 406

 The Monarchs are Migrating...

I saw this unusual duck up in Rhode Island...

does anyone know of an identification on this duck?

- be like a duck -
- paddling and working hard under water, but what everyone else sees is a calm smiling face -

Sharing today's images with Eileen at

  2. Hello Debbie,
Beautiful captures of the Monarch! I saw one these week on my butterfly bush. I believe your ocean duck is the Common Eider, but I could be wrong. Great photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, enjoy your weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

  3. Hello Debbie, I agree with Eileen, I believe it's an Eider but they only look like this from July to September. Beautiful captures of the Monarch butterfly. I haven't seen one all year!

  7. That's an odd looking duck...no offense, Ducky! heehee! But I don't think I've ever seen one. I sure hope one of the Monarchs will show up around here. We have SO many butterflies right now. Happy weekend. I hope you're resting and taking it easy!

  9. The Monarch is such a beautiful butterfly. As for the duck, I would say Scoter or Eider but I could be wrong.

  11. Beautiful butterfly.
Never seen a duck like that here. Bolsena lake, where I often go, is a perfect habitat for ducks but they are different.

  16. I guess it is the time of year for the Monarchs to migrate. I love how you raise and nurture them. That is an unusual Duck. It is amazing how they look so calm while paddling.
