Saturday's Critters # 401

I am always mesmerized by the vibrant, colorful
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

Swallowtails are very large insects/butterflies.

Their outspread wings can be 3.3 to 5 inches.
Females lay their eggs on plants in the Magnolia and Rose family.
Common host plants include the Tulip Tree, Wild Black Cherry Tree and
Sweet Bay Magnolia.
You should consider planting one of those trees to
attract these butterflies to your yard.

They come to my yard to feed from my beautiful Butterfly Bushes.

- even though you flew away, in my soul you will stay forever -

Sharing today's images with Eileen at

  1. Hello Debbie,

Beautiful captures of your Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly. They are beauties, like flying flowers! They are one of my most common butterflies seen at our butterfly bush too. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend! PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

  5. Such perfectly beautiful pictures -- Do you have to get out there early in the morning to get them? I've been told that butterflies are easier to photograph before it gets hot as they don't "flit" as much in the cool mornings. But I can't get going that early.

  6. Oh, how wonderful to have them come back to feed. The swallowtails are so BIG and gorgeous! I hope we can get outside soon, if the heat will just let up a little. Take care with the storm on the way!
