Monday was a gorgeous day in New Jersey!!
We went for a walk in
The historic village was once an iron-producing, factory-town known as the Howell Iron Works.
The village was a self sufficient community,
with carpentry and blacksmith shops, bakery, church, school, post office and general store.
There were also row houses for the workers to live in.
There was a pretty cherry blossom tree beside the church.
This is the church the hubs and I wanted to get married in.
I was only 19 and my mom would not allow it for whatever reason,
so we married elsewhere.
Someone has already started the garden outside the Foreman's Cottage.

There is so much more to see in the village, come visit and see for yourself.
This is a great place to experience life in the 18th century life.

ReplyDeleteyes, allaire state park. i am in central new jersey, ocean county, the park is in monmouth county but not far (10 minutes) from where i live!!
DeleteI love visiting these kind of places, I like when they plant gardens and stuff like that it makes it more realistic and you can imagine life there. Since you were not able to get married there you will have to renew your vows there, that would be neat :)

ReplyDeleteDebbie - it doesn't get more picturesque than that! Hard to beat the cherry tree with the church in the background. And I love the brick architecture - you don't see that much anymore!!! My husband's family were coal miners in the UK, and have always lived in a row house built for the miners, so I have a special affinity for row houses! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI would really like to visit that village for sure. I love the 1800's and it would be fun to see the different shops and etc. I do like the church and it does look like a fun place to get married. Of course, I loved your hubby's smiling photo. You got some great photos today for sure.
