One swan has returned to Lake of the Lilies.
Funny to see only one here, come the season, there will be so many more.
But it was thrilling to see one on this day, knowing that soon they will all arrive.
Males and females are very similar, except the female's bill's basil knob is smaller.
Without viewing them side by side, I used a picture in my book,
and my best educated guess is that this is a female.
Their wings make a throbbing, humming sound when in flight.
It is so pretty and quite memorable.
It is always a thrill to see them spread their wings...
even a bigger thrill to capture it in a picture.
On this day, we left home in the early afternoon to go for a ride.
It is always fun to see the moon out during the day!
Gorgeous captures!
ReplyDeleteLove the pics of the swan spreading her wings. And the one with the gull beside her. I'll bet they were friends. We had a tree rat and an bunny that would lie in the sun together out back almost every day a few years ago. It was amazing to watch them.
ReplyDeleteHello Debbie,
ReplyDeleteGorgeous captures of the swans! Take care, enjoy your day!
Sure is a beautiful swan!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. I like to try and capture that wing action with the Canada Geese.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful swan showing off against the backdrop of the deep blue sea. Gorgeous photos!

ReplyDeleteVery pretty. I was in a folder on FB looking at some older pics and I ran across some cool birdie, ducks and heron pics. I really need to grab my camera and get out and shoot. Great job.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos of this elegant swan. She's a real beauty! Never knew that about the female and male so learned something today. Thanks Debbie :) Your moon shot was great too.
ReplyDeleteHow adorable that little guy is so sweet along side of that large white beautiful swan!
ReplyDeleteYou always wonder what the story is behind them when you see just one of a bird, cool that you caught her spreading her wings! Isn't it cool when we can see the moon even during the day!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! It's always nice to have the blue water contrasting with the white plumage! Or the blue sky with the moon.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs of the swan, and a very nice moon shot too.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I love the Moon photo. We took a photo of a full moon as it was coming up the other day. It didn't turn out this good.
ReplyDeleteI love Swans and I like the photo with the Seagull by it. Swans really are a magnificent bird.
Sending loving thoughts and hugs!
