Saturday Critters ~ 308 ~

This is my family room,
also know as
The Butterfly Oasis - The Butterfly Room - The Butterfly Nursery
All of the caterpillars are chrysalis now,
all are indoors,
soon they will be moved to the garage for over wintering.

There are a total of 3 cages, 52 chrysalis,
all of the caterpillars formed into chrysalis at different times.

Occasionally, a chrysalis will fall, that's fine,
I have found they emerge anyway.

The caterpillars like sticks,
and corners in which to form their chrysalis.
They turn brown to mimic the stick and to camouflage themselves from predators.
They will all emerge in spring.

  1. The perfect room for a butterfly oasis. I wouldn't mind sitting on one of those chairs, enjoying the sunshine and that view!

  3. That camouflage is really effective. It wasn't until the last photo that I actually saw them.

    And what a lovely room.

    1. their homes are butterfly "cages" designed just for them. if you google it, you will see it is a really popular hobby these days. there are many shapes and sizes to choose from, some even come with butterfly eggs!!

and i love those tables too, they are new this year...along with the reclining, cushioned chairs we bought!!

  9. WOW! You have quite the system there. They do look like a part of the stick.

  10. Now the wait until spring, nice to have big windows for them to sit by. So cool how they mimic the sticks!

  11. Those caterpillars have it lucky ... they really wouldn’t even have to hide with you as their housemother! You do such great work!
