Saturday Critters ~ 224 ~

Lake of the Lilies,
one of my favorite places to go "duck hunting".

Soon, most of the "winter ducks" will be gone and a few more swans will call this lake home.
The first six pictures are pictures I have already shared here on my blog.
It gives you an idea of all the amazing ducks that are here over Winter.

Hooded Mergansers

 Redhead

The American Coot

The Greater Scaup

The Mute Swan

Killdeer

These next images are new to the blog...the not so great captures of the
The Northern Shovelers

  2. In the second picture there is also a Ruddy Duck, in the centre of the group. It is the small duck with its tail sticking up vertically. In fact it belongs to a group of ducks loosely referred to as “stiff tails.” May I point out, with the utmost respect, that the correct name of Red-headed Duck is simply Redhead. This is certainly a great spot to observe waterfowl and I can see why you enjoy it so much.

    1. thanks david, i appreciate it. as much as i LOVE ducks, i don't always identify them correctly. and i was wondering about the ruddy duck i have a picture of it closer up but i did not know the name. when i googled it, i was probably not describing it correctly as i got nothing. this is a great lake, very close to home and i visit often in the winter. i have had much luck there seeing new to me birds!!
