Saturday Critters ~ 224 ~

Lake of the Lilies, 
one of my favorite places to go "duck hunting".

Soon, most of the "winter ducks" will be gone and a few more swans will call this lake home.
The first six pictures are pictures I have already shared here on my blog.
It gives you an idea of all the amazing ducks that are here over Winter.

    What a pretty place to live!
    The ducks are all amazing to see! I love the Scaup and the American Coot!

    In the second picture there is also a Ruddy Duck, in the centre of the group. It is the small duck with its tail sticking up vertically. In fact it belongs to a group of ducks loosely referred to as “stiff tails.” May I point out, with the utmost respect, that the correct name of Red-headed Duck is simply Redhead. This is certainly a great spot to observe waterfowl and I can see why you enjoy it so much.

      thanks david, i appreciate it. as much as i LOVE ducks, i don't always identify them correctly. and i was wondering about the ruddy duck i have a picture of it closer up but i did not know the name. when i googled it, i was probably not describing it correctly as i got nothing. this is a great lake, very close to home and i visit often in the winter. i have had much luck there seeing new to me birds!!

    Beautiful assortment of ducks...the Greater Scaup with its blue beak is my favourite.
    But the Shovelers look so funny!

    That pond is a marvel -- so many different kinds of ducks! I love your kind of hunting. Hard to beat the hooded merganser, but I'm excited to see the shovelers too -- don't think I've ever seen them in 'real life. All great pictures of beautiful water fowl. Happy Easter!

    Great shots and a good selection of different types of ducks. I love that little killdeer, I haven't seen one of those before. Hubby and I were just talking about when was the time when the geese had their babies.

    Wow Debbie y'all have ducks up there that I have never seen before! Very interesting. I have fallen in love with that Scaup one, the black and white, oh my gosh, that is a beautiful bird, love it! I'll have to look them up, I wonder if we ever get those here. I've never seen any. I learn something new on the blogs every single day, how about you?
