Saturday Critters ~ 177 ~

I am excited to get back to the good stuff...
Pictures!!
You may remember our trip to Smithville back on April 14th.
Most of our trips revolve around where we are going to go to eat,
and what I can photograph.
We enjoy day trips, we definitely have our favorites,
and Smithville is one of them.

First up, right out of the car we spotted this Snow Goose...

keeping watch over,

this Snow Goose that was sitting on a nest.
Can you handle that cute tail curl in the first picture?
So adorable!

The area also has a large population of Domestic Geese

They are quite tame and very easy to photograph.

This looked to be a blend/hybrid of the two.

This smiling brown duck appeared to be a hybrid as well.

Another momma sitting on a nest.

There are lot's of Rooster's in the area...

they are also tame and easy to photograph.

Two more pictures of the unusual hybrids...

and the last two of this Grey Goose that followed us to the car.

The last time we were here we saw the wood ducks, they have moved on.

  4. Geese and Roosters scare me. Living on a farm my first 45 years of life, they were the meanest fowl!!!
Swans come in second. They look so lovely and if you get too close, they come at you hissing and trying to bat you with their big wings. HOWEVER--your photos always make these animals look so peaceful and beautiful.

  14. Debbie, your photos are always so good. First thing I noticed was the little curl in tthe tail of #1. Don't you love the texture of the neck on the geese? My MIL had a rooster like the one you saw. Just beautiful and I have a photo of my older son holding that rooster. Happy weekend to you both.

  16. Absolutely fabulous!! I was always told that a drake [male duck] has a curly tail and that is the way you can tell it's male...wonder if the same goes for geese...certainly it would be the female laying on the nest...maybe, maybe not.

Excellence thru and thru here today.

Sending along my heart felt thanks for sharing this awesome post and photos!! The birders at I'd Rather B Birdin' are beholding to you.
