Saturday Critters ~ 164 ~

Last weekend at the Fire and Ice Festival there were a few
rescued feathered critters entertaining the crowds.

- Barred Owl -
Barred Owls are molted brown and white overall with dark brown, almost black eyes.
It is a large, typical owl - native to North America.
Best known as the hoot owl because of is distinctive call,
it also goes by the name eight hooter, rain owl, wood owl and striped owl.

This owl had the most beautiful eyes.

- Raven -
This bird was rescued with broken wings and cannot be returned to the wild.

There were 3 Alpaca

It was almost impossible to get pictures with all the little kids pushing their way in front of me.
I did restrain myself, I did behave...it wasn't easy but I did try to be kind.
I always enjoy looking into an animals eyes,
the window into their soul...and the way I connect with them.
It was not possible with these three alpaca as they all needed their bangs cut.

This was such a fun festival and I enjoyed that it was during the winter.
A time when the hubs and I are always looking for a fun adventure.

  1. That first photo!!! Wow! What a great festival and I love how you were able to get so close (without trampling over the kids :-) ) I would have loved to see the alpaca's eyes, too - they seem like such sweet animals. I can only imagine that their eyes would reflect this.

  6. The owls are so amazing. I was going to say something about not being able to see the eyes on the sweet alpacas -- but you said it better. You did great getting photos in a crowded situation -- I tend to give up.)

  16. Oh Debbie I just love the expression you captured of the owl in the first picture, and like you said his eyes just speak to you!!
    Cool Raven pic too!
So glad you were able to stay calm with all the kids getting in the way of your picture taking :) It is amazing that they can even see to get around with all that fur in their eyes that's for sure. Glad you had a great day out!
