The beautiful Sea Girt Lighthouse, built in 1896,
began flashing it's beam of light on December 10, 1896.
Located in Sea Girt, New Jersey,
this lighthouse is one of some 40 lighthouses,
lightships and range lights along New Jersey's 130 mile Coastline.
Just over half of them survived,
but only 11 of the original lighthouses, including Sea Girt,
are open to the public.
This red brick structure with a tower rising 44 feet was the last
live-in lighthouse built on the Atlantic Coast.
I have never been inside but plan to go back in April,
when it opens for the season.

ReplyDeleteI've never seen a lighthouse built into a house like that!
ReplyDeleteI went there two years ago and it was adorable, inside and out. I believe it is only open on Sundays? Anyway, I did take some photos from inside and at the top of the lighthouse. It was much easier to climb to the top than at the Cape May Lighthouse!
