Picking the Perfect Nut...

It's a lot of work, you know.
Researching, inspecting, shaking and a little taste testing.
The Bluejays are experts!!

So here we go, in the order they were taken on

And yes, he was swallowing them whole,
I think I need to learn birdie CPR!!

  1. Good Morning, Debbie.. Awesome sequence on the Blue Jay and his feast of peanuts.. It is funny how they seem to weigh them.. I am not sure if they swallow them whole though..I thought they took them somewhere and came back for more. Great photos! Have a happy day!

  8. They sure are, and they come out of who knows where the second we put peanuts out! Like peanut butter on a mouse trap! You photos are just simply dreamy! Lovely, lovely!

  22. He's like the squirrels in Wonka's factory.

    The bird expert that was leading the hawk watch I (sort of) participated in explained that birds have a breathing tube, just like snakes, that allows them to breathe while they swallow such things. He was full of incredible information.
