The Famed Flying Horse Carousel, in Watch Hill Rhode Island...
This is the stuff, childhood dreams are made of.
A beautiful landmark, and a must see tourist attraction,
the carousel features richly detailed, hand carved, hand painted horses.
The paintings that surround the horses are lovely...
the horses feature real hair for the tails and manes.
Each summer, these horses circle thousands of miles,
their hooves never touching the ground.
From their leather saddles, the children must lean out and try
to snatch a brass ring.
A brass ring gets a free ride and an awesome summer memory!!
wow
ReplyDeleteA throwback to a time when craftsmanship meant something, huh?
Wow, the craftsmanship is stunning! Not only are the horses beautiful, but the paintings are just as lovely.
ReplyDeleteHave an amazing day, Debbie!
Wow, isn't that cool! Amazing artwork.
ReplyDeleteLovely Debbie. You have brought great memories of my childhood, and my children ;))
ReplyDeleteBesos.
i'm impressed they still operate it! i thought for certain it was for show only!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen such an old carousel!!! It is beautiful!! And it must take so much work, too!!
ReplyDeleteIn the next post, I noticed that cushion which said "your boat's name", and had to wonder if you ordered one - you seem the sort of person whose house would have a name!!!
I must go to that Merry Go Round someday. One that still has a brass ring. All of my life, I have wanted a brass ring.
ReplyDeleteThat is the most beautiful carousel I have ever seen. I think the workmanship must be stunning. I am so glad you took pictures of it.
Oh my goodness...those manes! How unique!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous merry-go-round! Too bad the one in your neck of the woods at Seaside Hts. is for sale -- too expensive to maintain. I remember trying to catch the brass ring in Ocean City -- once or twice I did! Thanks for sharing this beauty with us!
ReplyDeleteCute post!! I love those photos!
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Wow - so very beautiful! My Hunter would fall in love immediately! I will show this to her the next time she's here. Thanks for sharing!
