While visiting Connecticut, I noticed every home had a stone fence.
Intricate, detailed...
and labor intense to install, I would imagine.
We drove by hundreds of these fences. I had to exercise a lot of self control
to "not" yell "stop the car" at each and every one.
They are really beautiful!!
But there was no doubt about stopping for this one,
I'm sure you can understand why.

This one was a beauty, no more beautiful then the others...
but this one had a barn and a stone silo.
There were several not-noteworty fences behind it...
A special and most beautiful farm, I had never seen a stone silo before!!

ReplyDeleteI remember seeing so many stone fences in New England. Ireland has them, too. Each one is so unique. BUT, I never saw a stone silo -- beautiful!

ReplyDeleteLOVE stone fences! A landscape architect I worked for in Dallas created one for a wealthy homeowner and took me by to see it afterwards. I was so amazed. I can see why you yelled STOP the car! for this. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI once read a piece in the Reader's Digest about a modern man repairing a stone foundation. He did his very best, but it was far, far, far from the precision of the original makers.

ReplyDeleteI love stone fences! We have a lot of them in Kentucky. I don't think I've ever seen a stone silo, though. That's awesome! Talk about some work!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the warning. We will be driving through that area in about 3 weeks and I'll be asking my husband to stop so I can take photos ---or else I'll have to take them while the car is moving and hope some turn out well.

Stone walls/fences are pretty cool and yes I bet they do take a lot of time to put together. I'm amazed at that Silo, can you imagine building that. No wonder you stopped and got some great photos.

I love that hugs granite boulder anchoring the fence!! I have never seen a stone silo before either. Lots of concrete ones, but not stone!
