The Thomas Jefferson Building!!

Within the Thomas Jefferson Building in Washington, D.C.,
is the very beautiful and very ornate
Library of Congress.
 
Established in 1800, the original building was burnt to the ground
by invading British troops.
Rebuilt and reopened again in 1897,
between 1984 and 1997, the building was restored to it's original
nineteenth-century beauty.
 
All of the structures, statues and paintings
have very significant meaning,
lucky for you guys I don't remember any of it.
Let's just enjoy the pretty pictures!!
 









 
Can you believe this building does not have air conditioning?
It is the major reason I remember so little.
These images were taken on April 11, 2014,
during our trip to Washington, D.C.

    Isn't it a gorgeous building. I remember spending a lot of time there, but I didn't realize it wasn't air conditioned!

    Beautiful! I'd love to see it. You know, I just had a thought...don't you think that with all the taxes most of us pay that we should get a free trip to DC at least once in our lives? lol!!

    Debbie, these are beautiful pics! Rivals many of the buildings we saw in Italy. Nice to know I don't have to travel so far to see such beautiful architecture. :)

    No a/c? I'm so surprised. Paper is so sensitive to climate. I have MS like you. Husband would have had to scoop me up with a shovel and wheelbarrow. But the building IS a beaut!

    Really??? No air conditioning? How odd. It is really beautiful. I don't think I have ever heard of that one before. I bet it is breathtaking in person.

    WOW!! I can tell you I've never been in that building - and MUST go some time! What a stunning place - and, I'm sure so full of history! {the lack of air conditioning is a bummer though - I'm not a great hot weather tourist!}
