Song-ography ~ Up On The Roof Edition ~ 1

James Taylor
~ Up on the Roof ~

When this old world starts a getting me down,
and people are just too much for me to face.

I'll climb way up to the top of the stairs
and all my cares just drift right into space.

On the roof,
it's peaceful as can be and there the world below don't bother me, no, no.

So when I come home feeling tired and beat,
I'll go up where the air is fresh and sweet.
I'll get far away from the hustling crowd and all the rat-race
 noise down in the street.

On the roof, that's the only place I know, look at the city, baby.
Where you just have to wish to make it so, let's go up on the roof.

And at night the stars, they put on a show for free.
And, darling,
you can share it all with me, that's what I said, keep on telling you

That right smack dab in the middle of town,
I found a paradise that's trouble-proof.

And if this old world starts a getting you down,
there's room enough for two
up on the roof, up on the roof, up on the roof.

Everything is all right, every thing is all right.
You got the stars above and the city lights below, let's go up on the roof.

Sharing today with Kathy at You'll Shoot Your Eye Out

  1. LOVELY!! It really brings me back... all the photos you post of the jersey shore. Every once in a while I see something that I know I must have seen as a child, cause it strikes something in me - we vacationed there every summer! And the beaches always bring back wonderful memories...my brother - who's traveled all over and lives in Hawaii - still thinks longingly of the beaches from our childhood!

  3. Oh neato! Love the way you added those sparkly, unexpected stars in that photo.

Jersey is one state I have never been too... it is however on my bucket list as is just about any state on the Atlantic Ocean. xox

  6. What a FANTASTIC ship on the roof of that first shot! And I think I like your second shot better WITHOUT the real fireworks, how you edited it still maintains a quiet peacefulness to it. Bravo! FYI, heading to the Jersey Shore (Stone Harbor/Avalon) next weekend...CAN'T WAIT to take photos! :) Thanks for linking up to Song-ography!!!!!

  7. Wonderful take on the song.
I really like the building shot and the play of lights in it. Then you post a beach shot and I'm completely lost in the dreamy feel of it.

  17. You created your own beautiful fireworks Debbie.

    I love James Taylor songs-

Back in the day- Asbury boardwalk was the place to be and be seen especially on Easter Sunday.

  18. Personally, I prefer the original song sung by the Drifters. Not that James Taylor isn't also a favorite, but the original hits it better for me. Great shot of Asbury Park at night.
