I live in the suburbs.
One acre on a quiet cul de sac, in a cute little neighborhood,
right on a winding river.
Can you just imagine how surprised I was to see a...
Ring-Necked Pheasant
wandering around my back yard on March 8th.
I mean, it's nothing like a farm here.
He came back on the 9th,
and son Scott spotted him again on the 10th.
A large Chickenlike bird, with a long pointed tail,
he sure is a "spiffy" dresser!
My bird book says they are wary of feeders and prefer tall grasses.
Poor guy must be lost, I sure am glad he got lost here.

ReplyDeleteflashier than a roadrunner, for sure.
(and i love that you have an acre!)
You did a great job of capturing his beauty!
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that? My brother used to raise them them to let go around here to introduce them back into the country side. Who knew that houses would take over but maybe someone was raising them and it got away.
ReplyDeleteWell I do believe you are now the farmgirl and I am not. I have never seen one of these beautiful birds on the farm. Lucky girl you are. Hug B
ReplyDeleteHe does look out of his element.sure glad you wed able to get some pictures.
ReplyDeleteWOWZERS. A beauty of a bird.
ReplyDeletethat is too cool. what a great happening. glad you got to get a few awesome shots. ( ;
ReplyDeleteI think that's my pheasant that was in the tree the other day -- maybe he's walking to warmer weather. :)
ReplyDeleteHe just knew what a nice lady you are and he wanted you to have something to photograph that was out of the ordinary....He is beautifully dressed that's for sure....I hope he finds his way home after giving you several days of entertainment....

ReplyDeleteWOW awesome! Beautiful bird, I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteI hope he sticks around. He is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful surprise to see! You got some great pictures of him. He's a real beauty! I don't think I've ever seen one, and I grew up on a farm.
ReplyDeleteHe was just looking for his five minutes - he heard that the paparazzi hang out at your place and wanted to make sure he made it screens all over the world!
ReplyDeleteOh Debbie, he just knows how well you feed your babies. How wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe you caught him with your camera. He is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to see a pheasant strutting around. makes you feel like you are away in the country somewhere. I love his bright colours against the snow.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is HILARIOUS! I like him just strolling along like he's used to the place. :)
ReplyDeleteHow interesting. They are a dime a dozen here on the prairie, but New Jersey? He is a little lost. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteHe must have gotten lost in Jersey since he's the state bird of PA :)
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie..He came by to strut his stuff for you ; )
ReplyDeleteStrange to see since most are raised on let go like farm girl said, !!
He is a handsome fella!!
Grace
He is a handsome fellow. Don't you wonder where he came from?
ReplyDeleteWow, that's bizarre. I think their habitat is being destroyed (as with many other species) and they are becoming misplaced. Fabulous looking bird!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of seeing pheasants on my grandparents farm in Michigan. It's been a long time since I've see any. Love the first photo! This was a very cool visitor!
ReplyDeleteDebbie! Wow! He is a beauty!!!!
ReplyDeleteCool shots of the pheasant, Debbie! He is an awesome visitor. I hope he hangs around for awhile. Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteThey are god to eat also.
He's beautiful. Don't you just love unexpected visitors...
ReplyDeleteHe's not lost - he heard u were a very famous bird photographer!
ReplyDeletePrachtig wat een parmantige vogel is het toch mooi zo in de sneeuw.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Ring neck pheasants used to be a common sight on the farms here. They are not anymore. You were treated to a lovely sight.
ReplyDelete"I spotted a funny guy on the 9th,
ReplyDeleteand he came back again on the 10th."
The bird said.
Welcome Debbie!
ReplyDeleteMajestic, beautiful bird.
He walks like a royal bird!
Great pictures.
I wish you a nice day.
I send greetings.
Lucia
They really are beautiful. Poor guy must be lost. Hope he finds his way home!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I'll bet he was looking for a great photographer and he found one! Great post!
ReplyDeleteWow, aren't you lucky! He certainly has beautiful plumage. I hope he has a honey to impress nearby.
ReplyDeleteGreat that you got such good closeups of him. Whenever I see them they fly away before I can get a good photo.
ReplyDeleteYou got some good photos!! I would love to see one in the flesh!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that was awesome; you have the best bird photos ever.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
