I spend many hours, many days, chasing herons!!
They are so beautiful, so majestic, I love their color,
size and long slinky legs!!
I am unable to pass a small patch of water, without stopping to look for
Herons or Egrets.
I am obsessive.
When you know you are obsessive, are you still considered obsessive?
September 21, 2012
Fletcher Lake in Ocean Grove
Dissatisfied with those images,
the next day, September 22nd, I dragged the hubs to my favorite marina.
There were several Great Blue Herons,
doing what they always do, they avoid me.
Now I like the first two images better!
What do you guys think?
This is what he does best...
fly away!!
Sheeeeeez, all I want is a picture!!

Sharing today with Stewart at Wild Bird Wednesday
Please stop by to view all the amazing birds from around the world.
you make me laugh. :)
ReplyDeletei like the stump-sitter ones. :)
They are wonderful birds!! We usually have a couple by the pond where we use to live... I never did get a picture this year of it!!
ReplyDeleteOh I think you captured every shot perfectly. I love that your husband does that mine too. We are lucky. AWESOME shots. B
ReplyDeleteThey first shots have a nice reflection and show the heron's natural setting. The second shots highlight the heron because it's isolated on the stump. Both are really nice, just different perspectives! And, yes, they're very good at flying away!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots ,Nette
ReplyDeleteWonderful images... I love the flight shots
ReplyDeleteThese are marvelous!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Debbie!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are wonderful. Beautiful birds.
i love them all. so love #3 & #5 ... you do such great work. gorgeous bird. (:
ReplyDeleteI love number 3 & 4! Makes me want to call him Bird Legs! They are wonderful birds and I love to see them, too. Here's to lots more happy Heron sightings!
ReplyDeleteI would chase them too- nothing wrong with that- they make such great subjects.
ReplyDeleteAlways a joy to see the Heron. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. They are beautiful birds to be obsessive about!
ReplyDeleteThe last two are my faves.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful series of shots!
ReplyDeleteI too love herons...and agree with your descriptive words of the species. We have one particular one at a favorite watering hole we frequent that seems to always be there to greet us....we've even named him..."Hector the Heron".
ReplyDeleteAh Debbie you make me smile :))
ReplyDeleteI think all of your shots are great but I especially love the in flight ones.
I am hopeless at getting bird, butterfly, wasps, bees - in fact anything that moves - shots. So well done!!!
I think all the photographs are wonderful. Such a stately bird. And....yes one is obsessive even when they admit it. That would be I.
ReplyDeleteI think the preference of one over the other might be the settings.
ReplyDeleteI like the second two with the blurred background best but they are all wonderful. I've never been able to photograph one. :)
Nice shots Debbie!
HaHa, I guess I am obsessive too. I think to be no longer obsessive, you would have to stop chasing the herons. They are beautiful and you got some awesome shots. Keep chasing away!
ReplyDeleteI love these photos! I love these birds. How did you get such good shots of them flying away?? Whenever they fly away from me (and that's all the time!), my images are all blurred.
ReplyDeleteYea...I think even if you admit it, you still are!! ha! ha! I like the ones in flight...neat shots!
ReplyDeleteGreat in flight shots!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteI too love herons. They are such elegant birds. Debbie, your photographs are especially beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you do to chase those birds away? Good luck with your on-going quest!! I really like the shots where the heron is standing on the post. More unusual than just standing around in the water.
ReplyDeleteHey,I'm just a little jealous of your pictures. I usually see them ½ a mile away.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of beautiful creatures!
ReplyDeleteWhy can the birds understand that all we want is a picture! I really like the herons on the post.
ReplyDeleteI would not say I was obsessed with herons, but I always feel like I seen "something" when I see one.
Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW.

Great photos love your sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteI share your obsession! Love the shots on the post :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE THESE PICTURES! Have you ever been down in Fla, when the ibex are just standing on the side of highways like statues???
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend ... just think (or maybe not -eewwww) of all the *nasty* things that people obsess over in this world ... you having an obsession w/ these beautiful birds - that's a WONDERFUL! obsession!!!
Great pictures!!! I LOVE Herons. I lived in Las Vegas for 10 years before moving to Missouri 6 months ago.
ReplyDeleteIn Vegas Heron's are extremely rare. In fact there was only one small little wetland area where you would occasionally see one.
I remember the first time I saw one, I pulled my car over and watched in amazement. I had no idea what it was and searched the internet to figure it out.
Now that we live in wonderful MO, we seem them quite often. I think they are spectacular. Thank you for sharing your awesome pics!!
I am so envious of all of you that can photograph the herons. We don't see any around here.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite are the ones on the stump!
Interesting question about obsession ...... Love all your herons, they ae such wonderful birds to watch. The pictures of the heron flying are great too.
ReplyDeleteWonder if "our" herons are related?? And...knowing we're obsessed...and lingering in our obsession...makes us just a tad more nuts. But we're in good company ~ so it's all good!
ReplyDeleteI think if you know you're obsessive, that just makes you a self-aware obsessive ...
ReplyDeleteI like the 3rd & 4th shots where he's peering over his shoulder -there's a lot more intrigue going on there!!
They are avoiding me too, but I love them anyway - and your photos of them!
ReplyDeleteGreetings Pia
You get a lot better pictures than I ever have! I love Blue Herons and always want to photograph them but as you say they are pretty elusive.
