Riding The Rails

There is something so comforting about the sound of a train whistle.


And the gathering of people coming home or going to visit loved ones!!


It's been a long time since the Pine Creek Rail Road did that.


There is a lot of history all around the railyard...


memories of days gone by.


This is another part of Allaire State Park,


if you follow my blog you know we visit here often.


It was a gorgeous day on November 28, 2011
no need for a jacket, it was 70 degrees outside. 


Today we walked around the rails, everything was quiet.


There was no need to decide which way to go.


We rode these on this perfect day!!

Do you love my new basket??...for the camera!!
My bike is purple, of course. Is there any other color in that crayola box??

    I cherish this walk amid the train rails with you. I grew up hearing train whistles and every house I've ever owned I have been able to hear the whistles. All without trying. They always bring me home.

    Trains are almost magic. They carry the potential for adventure and so many possibilities. Loved the visit to Pine Creek Railroad with you. If those old pieces could talk...wow!

    We've visited the Golden Spike Monument in Utah where the first transcontinental rail was completed. The have two working restored engines there that really put on a show.

    Jealous of your good weather and your purple bike!

    You are too funny. Love your bike. I have horrible knees from running so many years, (cross country) so bike riding is a killer for me. I love your post. You have awesome places to share with us.

    Awesome pictures! Love them. We don't have train tracks here, so no trains. My bicycle has a basket like that too. Comes in handy.

    Wow, no jackets on November 28th - you lucky things.
    What a great place, there are plenty of old trains there and some of them are well rusty.
    Love your bike - what other colour is there lol.

    Debbie, just my opinion, but I think these are some of your very best photographs. The compositions are just fantastic, and what better subject than a train?? Love them.

    P.S. Is that "Conductor Chuck" I see????

    old railway stations with the vintage engines are so fun to see. Reminds you of a time gone by. I'm glad you had a great time.

    So glad you visit and keep photos of the Pine Creek Rail Road, in your area. Memories...

    You too cover your Christmas trees and put 'em away, during the rest of the year! Yes, I am fully wanting to do this, with our little tree, after this Holiday Season is over. Why NOT??? :-)

    I've been trying to talk my husband into the idea, previously. This year will be "the year"!!! :-)

    I like trains and am one that thinks they should be in use more for transportation.

    Hi Deb, you asked where the snowyowl was seen in NJ. It was a place called Merrill Creek reservoir. Two years ago they showed up at beaches up down the Atlantic. They like to hang around the sand dunes. Some have been seen on large farm fields where they can hunt. If you are near the ocean I would take some walks up and down the beach and look at the dunes.     Lovely post! There are some train engines there that I have not seen before! You better enjoy those temperatures! It's several degrees below freezing here, this morning. My whippet said going to the bathroom without his coat on was an ordeal!
    As for other colours in the crayon box, what about lilac, and lavender?

    I do, I do love your new basket. What a perfect nest for your camera!

    I loved to ride the rails. Dad would take us to KC to catch the big Santa Fe 'red nose' and mom and I would ride to Albuquerque to visit my grandmother.

    I have fond memories of the trips!
