Chasing A Great Egret

really pays off!!

Chuck and I found this Great Egret as we were riding our bikes in
Spring Lake on September 25th. I was just so excited,
we ride here all the time and I have never seen an Egret here before!!
I assumed he would just fly off but he didn't. And when I say he didn't,
I mean he didn't move!!
We got sooo close that I couldn't even use my 200 mm lens!!

Large all white Heron,

captured here with his catch of the afternoon...
can you see his tiny little fish?!?!

Long yellow bill, his legs and feet are black.

More fish!!

Showing off his curves!!

Getting "fluffy" with a fish!!

He was a very intense fisher...

I loved this dead on look...as if to say "don't think I don't see you"!!

The last two were my favorites!!

These pictures are straight out of the camera. Most have not been cropped.

At the end of our visit, I was only about 8 feet away from this usually very skittish bird!!

I saved this entry so I could share it with

and tomorrow I will be sharing this with

  11. Just look at him! How excited you must have been, to get so close. And it looks like he was giving you quite a show too. I love that first shot of him steppin' out. I don't know why, but I am facinated by the feet of these bigger birds. Maybe because we don't always get to see them as they are often under water.
Thanks so much for sharing your adventure Debbie.
