Saturday Critters #656

It's been hot and humid here at the Jersey Shore.
I have not been out and about much but recently took a drive around the
Lake of the Lilies

I found this...

Great Blue Heron

I think this a young Heron, because of its coloring, what do you think.

As I was photographing the Heron I could hear the song of a
Red Winged Black Bird
happy as can be, singing his little heart out.

Sharing today images with Eileen at
for Saturdays Critters

  1. Your photos are amazing. I haven't a clue about the heron. I love spotting the Red Winged Black Birds and I'm always thrilled when I see that splash of red from their wings.

  8. Once in a blue moon I get to see a Great Blue Heron, the lighting is never good so could never get beautiful photographs like yours! I love when sunlight catches the red on the Red-winged Blackbirds.

  9. I'm not sure if my comment went through Debbie so I'll try again. I love that red winged blackbird. I love their distinctive song and it's a challenge to get a photo with the red! And you even got the beak! Great close up my friend. Happy weekend!

  12. Stunning photos, Debbie! I think you're right about it being a young heron based on those lighter colors. Love the red-winged blackbird shot, too!

  14. The heat will certainly limit outdoor adventures, Debbie, but nice that you did get out and captured the heron (possibly young as you suspected) and the red winged blackbird. We have both here on the Nashua River.

  16. great pics of them, I agree it has been way too hot to get out for very long. Isn't it nice when you hear a bird call and you know what bird it is, I always know there is a cardinal outside just hearing their chirp!
